Two flowers grow side by side,
One boldly grows, the other hides.
The bright red rose with crimson glow,
The lily fair ducks pale head low.
A smiling man walks down the street,
Today his love he'll finally meet.
The bright red bloom holds his eye,
The lily trembles, waiting, shy.
He kneels to get a closer view,
To see the place his flower grew.
The scarlet rose has had her luck,
For it's her the man decides to pluck.
The man turns with bloom in hand,
He starts up and begins to stand.
He walks away not sparing a glance,
At where he'd taken up his stance.
The lily lies broken, trodden on,
And by the fast approaching dawn.
The lily fair will grow no more,
Forgotten and alone forevermore.
