Episode 4: Study Buddies

[Tony]
After finding out that Daniel and Emma are broken up, I decided to slowly getting back to her at the next day. I first found her talking to a boy near her locker. I accidentally evesdropped on them.

"See you later after lunch." he said before walking away with a smile. I walked up to her but I felt quite nervous.

"Hi, Emma." I greeted.

"Tony, hi." she greeted back. My palms started sweating. Tony, just be cool, man up.

"If I remember correctly, 2 years ago, we used to be study buddies." I said.

"Yep, I still remember that." she replied and slowly started getting her books from her locker.

"Let's give that another shot?" I insisted. I tried to look cool by putting my hands on my pockets and acting all chill.

"Sorry, I need to finish my long Algebra assignments with my assigned partner, Daniel." she answered. Chill mode: deactivated. I thought they broke up already.

"How about tommorow?" I asked. Crossing my fingers like woah. She picked up her phone, checked her calendar, and dropped it. "Sorry, I can't."

"Why not?" I asked. I swear, if this is Daniel related-

She answered, "I have a movie date with Jax." Ouch, she has a date.

"Jax, the new kid last year?" I asked. She nodded her head in response. I haven't seen or met him yet. What could he look like? Daniel-ish, Diego-ish, Mac-ish, or me... ish. I walked away.

(after school)

[Daniel]
Now, I finally get to bond with my Em again without Jax interrupting what-so-ever. We were paired for our Algebra assignments although Mia was my supposed partner. She was assigned to Jax. He better not do anything to my gir- uhm, I mean, Mia. I continued trying to compute.

"(4x^2 + 7x^2)^2 is equal to 121x^4." I answered. She gave a grin.

"Tutoring you last year must've really paid off!" she complimented.

"Maybe." I bragged. She laughed and made a cheeky grin. We continued the whole assignment for just one afternoon. How'd we do it exactly? Teamwork. I wonder how Mia and Jax are working.

[Jax]
Mia and I had to work on this Algebra assignment together but neither of us want to do it. We both knew what that meant and we both had the same plan in our heads: to use magic. But then I remembered, I can't. Em might scold me for doing so. Speaking of which...

(next day)

"As a reminder, your long algebra assignments are due tommorow." the teacher reminded. Just then, the bell rang which gave a signal that it's time for lunch and everybody headed to the cafeteria.

Emma sat beside me and Andi, who sat next to Philip, who sat next to his cranky stepsister Maddie, next to Diego, next to Mia, next to Daniel, next to Emma. Did I get it right? Sure did.

After eating lunch, I walked with Em to her locker. We talked about stuff until we came to the topic I didn't want to hear the most.

She asked, "How was working with Mia?"

I tried to leave the topic. "How was working with Daniel?"

She answered, "We finished our papers yesterday. You?" I got nervous and I bet she noticed. I guessed that because I heard a sigh.

"Lemme guess, you used magic didn't you?" she guessed, whispering the word magic. She definitely knows.

"We know each other so well then." I laughed. She stuffed her books inside her locker, taking out the ones needed for next period.

"Jax, you know you're not supposed to do that." she scolded. Yes, I am used to these situations with her. "And speaking of which, I'll make you do that whole thing again."

"You're gonna make me do the whole thing? How? I barely know a single answer." I complained. She locked her locker, nearly preparing to leave.

"After school, I'm gonna tutor you." she stated and picked up her bag.

"Tutor me?" I asked, "Sure, but what about our triple date with Maddie, Diego, Andi, and Philip?"

"Fine then, keep your magical homework but this isn't over." she joked. After which, we left for next class.

(after school)

[Tony]
I was in the Seven with Mac and Diego. He told us what happened while we were away. When I ran to get a drink, I bumped into this guy wearing a black leather jacket and combat boots. My drink spilled all over him. He swept it off his shirt and pulled me aside.

"What was that for?" he said in a high toned voice, much like he was about to scream.

"I'm sorry but I was running-" I said. I didn't know how to continue my sentence. He stared and me angrily which made me want to startle.

"Great, now my shirt will be wet on my date." he complained.

"Why don't you go back home and change?" I advised. He brushed his hair as I waited for an answer.

"I can't. Emma's gonna be here in a few minutes now and-"

"You're going on a date with Emma? You're Jax!"
