7 am. Maeve's clock blinks the time while her pager rings. It's bailey. Meet her at the front of the hospital. Maeve only has a couple hours of sleep.
As normal.
She gets up grabbing a pair of scrubs from her dresser. After getting dressed she stares into her bathroom mirror, her dark eye bags that have been there her whole life stare back. She's never quite liked them but she can't change them. She pulls her hair into a ponytail and she's off for the day.
She sees Bailey standing in front of the group of attendings. Bailey says "I want to do something different this year. I want two attendings to work together to train a few of the interns. So, Grey and Pierce, Riggs and Arizona, and Love and Karev." She peers at Alex and he says "I guess it's just you and me." She smile and we walk to get the interns. When we get to them she starts the traditional saying, "We have five rules. Memorize them." Alex continues for her, "Rule number one: Don't bother sucking up. we already hate you. That's not gonna change." The two takes turns reading each rule. "Trauma protocol, phone list, pagers, nurses will page you. You will answer every page at a run. A run! That's rule number two." The new doctors grab their pagers off the table. "Your first shift starts now and lasts 48 hours. You're interns, grunts, nobodies, bottom of the surgical food chain. You run labs, write orders, work every second night until you drop, and don't complain." They walk around, showing off the hospital. "On-call rooms. Attendings hog them. Sleep when you can where you can, which brings me to rule number three. If we are sleeping, don't wake us unless your patient is dying." Maeve opens the door to an on-call room. "Rule four: The dying patient better not be dead when we get there. Not only will you have killed someone, you woke us for no reason. We clear?" One of the interns raises their hand "You said five rules. That was only four." Alex rolls his eyes at the impatience. Maeve glares at the group and says "Rule number five: When we move, you move."
The two start to walk down to the pit, the interns follow, annoyingly close behind. April grabs their attention and says "I was just about to page you guys." Alex and Maeve grab gloves while he asks "What you got?" "Twelve year old girl, has been having non stop seizures, dizziness, headaches, and speech problems. This morning she fell crossing the street, luckily nothing that bad happened, just a few bruises." Maeve directs her attention to the interns. "What causes all these symptoms?" Their hands shoot up, she points to one of the girls, "Brain bleed." "Wrong." She points to another. "Kidney failure." "Did you even go to med school, it's a brain tumor. Order a mri and call the or to get them prepped." She throws her gloves away and walk away.
