Chapter III: Bow and Arrow

Louis propped himself up against a tree opposite me, pondering on that morning's events.

"So, what's the plan?" Louis asked. I wondered what he was thinking at that moment. I sure knew that I hadn't had one yet.

"Wow, you're funny," a laugh escaped my lips as I continued to ponder on his question, pulling the end of my hair ribbon, letting it fall free atop my shoulders.

"I'm not following, Kora," Louis responded looking confused and a little taken aback.

"I don't have a plan," I finally admitted, "My original plan was to run away and start a new life," I paused taking a breath, "I can't let my parents, your parents, and other leaders of Karesen have the satisfaction of me leaving that fast and easy. I want to fight back." After finishing, I took a deep breath hoping that I didn't sound silly for wanting to go back to the place I had traveled so far away from.

I studied the boy in front of me. He looked slightly less refined than he did when first running into him, his chocolate eyes tired, as were my own icy ones. I weighed the options gleaming inside my head. My first option was to be super wary of trusting him, but that could be hazardous if I pushed him away in a time I needed him most. My next option was to choose right then in there that he was worthy of my secrets. Like the last option, this could get me killed if I chose wrong. There wasn't really another option, but to not choose one at all and hope things went as planned. The latter was just as hazardous as the two former, but I wasn't really willing to decide my fate just yet.

"It's silly really," I started, focusing on the buckles of my tar black shoes, "Coming up with something so big, but having no idea where to start." I finished, raising my eyes to Louis's brown ones. I expected to see them full of sympathy and pity, but they were glowing with empathy, like he understood every syllable that worked its way out of my mouth.

"It's not silly at all, Kora. You spent your whole life preparing to leave and never return, but now that an opportunity has presented itself to you, you can't- won't let it slip away like the past 16 years of your life. You have every right to have no idea what to do." Louis looked me straight in the eyes, and I dared to fall deep into the soft, sweet, irises.

"The one thing I have realized we must do is prepare. The reason why I'm not marching back this instant to show my parents that I don't care what they think is that we have absolutely no idea of what could happen and two teenagers against how many battalions that might join together is a death wish." I sighed as I finished speaking. I knew that the size of the battalions waiting would never change, but that didn't mean that the amount of teenagers needed to remain constant.

"That's it!" I exclaimed, causing Louis to jump a little from my unexpected yelp.

"What exactly?" Louis asked, a skeptical expression plastered onto his face.

"Well the battalion will most likely stay the same size no matter when we return, but that doesn't mean that we have to remain just the two of us." I responded, saying everything I previously thought to myself.

"Elaborate please, Kora," Louis requested, most likely getting lost in my jumble of words.

"Okay. We set off towards Cordelia, moving away from Aleama. We need to make them believe that we've given up so that they let down their guard." I started, pausing every so often to make sure that Louis was understanding my words.

"And while they are dropping their shields, we build alliances. Make friends. Big or small, a group of us will take Aleama aback, and when we're ready, we march back and reclaim my home." I finished, releasing the breath I never knew I was holding. Louis nodded his head, taking over the information I practically blurted out.
