~~~Kim's POV~~~
"Alix, what are you doing?" I ask.
"Doing what Kim? I'm not doing anything."
"You're messing with the balls, quit it."
"I am not! All I'm doing is fixing the balls places on the line."
"What are you two arguing over this time? Is it even really something to argue over?" Sabrina asks.
"Alix keeps messing with the balls."
"I am not you dimwit. I'm fixing them."
"You guys are idiots. I don't know why we're even playing any games when one of us could literally die at any second!" she shouts.
"Wow Sabrina, tell us how you really feel. Besides, she said that she's not going to kill anyone for awhile because she used up so much of her power. She said we could do what we wanted. So, either you play or you go over there and sit. Choose." Alix says. Sabrina huffs in anger and makes her way to the benches to sit. Me and Alix roll our eyes at her.
"I guess she's trying to fill the hole that you know who had. I kinda feel bad," Ivan says.
"Well I don't. Shouldn't we all be closer since this has all happened? I mean we're all being killed off! We should be nicer to each other because we never know who's going to be killed next," I shout in frustration.
"I agree with Kim on this. She seems to be the only one who has a problem with us doing all this. Everyone else has joined in on the game," Alix says. I looked at her surprised that she actually agreed with me. When she notices me looking for too long she glares at me and I look away.
"Alrighty then! Everyone get into your places and get ready for the game of dodgeball!" Aurore shouts, "And don't forget that whoever loses has to make dinner tonight!"
Then the games begins.
~~~Sabrina's POV~~~
"I can't believe they're actually playing games! Do they not realize the severity of our situation?!" I ask aloud.
"It's because we're trying to distract ourselves. We don't want to acknowledge all this for awhile. Until she does come to kill us, we're going to try to spend our last days playing and joking around. But since she's not here you don't really have any friends, do you?" a voice says. I bristle and look over at who it was.
"I never asked for your opinion on the matter Aurore! What was the purpose of coming to tell me all that?" I ask.
"So you know that we'll have at least been happy for awhile instead of wallowing in our sadness. If you keep doing that, you'll be the one who kills yourself in the end. It's your choice," she says before she turns and walks away towards the others. I sit there shocked at her words.
'Is what she said the truth?'
~~~No one's POV~~~
If you saw the children playing inside the schoolyard, you'd think it was normal. If not for the fact that is blood everywhere, how there's no one outside at all. But the children are all acting as if this is perfectly ok. The only thing you can't see is the monster within the school walls. Their game looks like fun, but you can tell that they're not all there. They are just playing as their old selves, they're actors at this time. But they'll be fine in the end, you just know it.
~~~Juleka's POV~~~
"Hey watch out! You gotta make sure you see and know who has a ball."
"I'm watching! Don't tell me what to do! You aren't the team captain!"
"No she's not but she was just giving out advice!"
"I swear, sometimes I wonder how these kids haven't torn each other apart. But at least I get to sit and watch since I'm out," I say. I'm sitting on the sidelines because I got hit a few minutes into the game, which is fine. Kim, Alix, and kids from other classes are still playing while half of us are on the side. Some are cheering for some kids while others are just sitting there watching.
"It has now been 30 minutes since the game has begun so we will take a quick break so no one dies while they're playing!" Aurore shouts. You can hear groans from the others saying thank you. I chuckle a little before talking with Alix about her game plan and how she can improve her movements in the game.
"Well, I definitely think you should sit down and drink some water so you won't overheat out there," I say. She nods before sitting next to me and she turns to talk to the team to discuss who they should try to get out next. I just smile, trying to just forget that we could all die at anytime, which is terrifying.
'Just focus on your friends.'
"Alright, break time's over! Get ready everyone! Annnd go!" Aurore shouts.
Once again the match is on. I see Sabrina sitting over on a bench by herself. She looks upset, but not how she looked earlier upset. Like, she looks like she's wanting to cry but doesn't at the same time. I sigh before looking back at the game.
"She chose to stay away. We can't help it if she doesn't want to be near us," I whisper.
"Did you say something?"
"Oh no, I'm just thinking to myself. Ignore me please," I say with a small blush. They nod and look back out.
~~~Sabrina's POV~~~
I'm sitting here watching them all play, acting like they're happy even though their friends have been killed off. It's disgusting.
"Why can't they see that what they're doing is wrong? We're going to be killed and they're all being friendly and playing around. Chloe was right, the people here are stupid! And the teachers! Where the hell are all the teachers at?! I have not see one teacher since this whole shit show has started!" I say. I'm angry and no one will listen to me because I have no friends other than Chloe but now that she's gone, who am I supposed to talk to?
I sigh in frustration feeling tears gathering in my eyes.
'I am NOT going to cry!' I think.
I sigh again and wipe my eyes. When I look up I stand, making my way over to the others. I stop in front of Aurore and say, "I would like to join the next game, if you please?"
She smiles at me and nods. "Of course you can! This game is almost over anyways. Once those two idiots figure out that one isn't going to win then we'll start the next match. If you want you can be on Alix's team, just go sit by Juleka."
I nod in response and walk over. As I sit down I notice the others looking over at me. I apologize to everyone for snapping at them earlier and ask if they would let me join.
"Of course you can!"
"It's fine, no worries."
"It's nice to have you on the team!"
I smile and feel a weird feeling in my chest. It's not a bad weird, but a good one, a really good one. We sat there all talking until the game ended, getting ready for the next. When Alix walks over she smirks at me, "I see you couldn't resist. It's good to have you on my team."
I smile once more and think to myself, 'This is what having more friends is like, I'm happy!'
