The Choice

Chapter 20

(Ruth's POV)

I put down my phone and closed my eyes. My head starting to buzz. What is this guy talking about again? He still likes me? Like? Is he trying to check if I will still believe him? Doesn't he have a girlfriend?

"How's Mitch?" I texted back. An hour later, there was no message from him yet. Another hour passed by, still none. Yep, he still has a girlfriend, doesn't he? My phone suddenly rang. It was Felix. Should I answer the phone? Staring at the flashing screen, I picked up the call. "Hmmm?"

"Ruth . . ery,"  he said in stutter.

"What do you want, Felix?"  I asked with a bland tone.

"I don't want you to misunderstand anything."

"Misunderstand what? You still have a girlfriend yet you're telling me you still like me. What should I not understand by that?"

"Ruth.."

"Isn't this just the same last year? Have you not learned anything? If you don't have anything to say, I'm gonna drop the call."

"I just want to talk to you, Ruth. I'm sorry."

"If you want to talk to me, why do you have to mention that you like me?"

"But I do like you until n-"  I dropped the call immediately. I don't want to hear his lies again. After a few minutes, my phone rang again. 

"Stop calling me, Felix!" I yelled after I answered the call.

"Ruth?"  Ha? Why am I hearing June? Am I hallucinating? I checked the name on my phone and gasped.

"June.."

"Yes? Are you okay?" I nodded. After a few minutes, June was still silent. "Ruth?"

"I'm fine!" Fuck, why did I nodded on call?

"Hmm, okay. Is Felix bothering you?" 

"He suddenly texted me today." 

"Oh, would you like to meet tomorrow?" 

"Huh, why?"

"I wanna see you."

My head hurts. I don't know what should I do at all. My phone beeped again. It was from Felix. "I'm sorry, Ruthery."  I ignored it.

"June," 

"Yes, Ruth?"

"I'm not sure I'm ready to meet you again." I said honestly.

"I understand. Do you want me to help you with Felix?" 

"Is that possible?" I said honestly.

"Well, I can always pretend to be your boyfriend." And I heard him chuckle for a bit on the other line. "Well, it's up to you." I can imagine him smiling his usual smile. "You can also block him, you know." He continued. I laughed. "It's so nice to hear you laugh, Ruth."

"June.. "

"Don't say my name so sadly. I will always be here for you as long as I can. I hope you'll give me a chance. I really love you, Ruth."

"Let me think about this, please."

"Sure, just give me a beep when you need me."

"Thanks, June."

I found myself smiling after the call. I really have to think things through with Felix. Why did he has to contact me? I tapped a message on my phone. I inhaled deeply and exhaled then tapped the sent button.

(Felix's POV)

Do I really have to tell her I like her? Why am I so impatient? I only want to talk to her. Just a bit of her time. But no, I cannot control my fucking self.  "Ah, fuck."

Suddenly, my phone beeped. "We need to meet." Ruth messaged.
