"Hahaha, thanks. But please stop complimenting me too much. It's not healthy." I smiled at him. Alex offered me to sit and he sat down beside me. " Uhm,I'm just wondering. Where are your parents Alex?" I asked.
He looked down with a sad face, "They died 6 years ago. They didn't survive the apocalypse. "
" Oh, I'm sorry." I said in a sad tone. Then I scoffed." Zombies are really rude you know. They are heartless and brainless."
"It wasn't the zombies' fault." He replied.
"What do you mean? Weren't they attacked by zombies?"
"No. They were killed by humans." He said raising his voice. Tears were forming in his eyes. I felt guilty putting up the topic. I felt sorry for him and Colton. "I-i am sorry, I didn't mean to-"
"No it's fine. It's not your fault though." He wiped his tears then smiled.
"Can I ask one more question Alex? If you don't mind."
"Yea, what?"
"Who killed your parents?"
"I don't know. We don't know. In the span of 6 long years, my parents still didn't get the justice they deserve. We never knew who killed them but I can sense that we are close to finding out who. My parents were such good and loyal people. They served the government all their life. I didn't even know any issue and fights they had. They were good people. They didn't deserve to be killed. I kept thinking to myself what they did to deserve that." Tears kept falling from his eyes.
"Alex, stop crying. At least they're in a happy place now."
"Yeah, I know." He sniffed then wiped his tears. Just in time, the old man arrived. "Alex, we gotta go to the assembly hall. I have an announcement for everyone." He said.
"Okay grandpa. I gotta call Colton-"
"He's not coming with us."
"What?"
"He'll be staying with her." The old man pointed at me.
"Okay. I'll tell Colton." Alex stood up and went outside to look for Colton.

I was busy tending the flowers when I noticed and heard something from the cabinet from the terrace. I went out to check it out. I was thinking it was a zombie so I grabbed a long candle holder made of bronze as my weapon. I was about to hit it when I realized it was a dog.
It sniffed my feet and wagged its tail at me. Aww, " Hi there sweetie!" I rubbed swiftly its head. Arf! It playfully barked at me. It was a golden retriever.
"Wow. That's weird. Jesse doesn't really like strangers. " a voice echoed the terrace. I turned around and saw Colton leaning on the door jam. His quiff hair was really on point and his eyes were shining brilliantly.
"Uhmm, maybe I'm not the typical stranger." I laughed then smiled.
"Come here Jesse, I got you some alpo crackers, your favorite." Colton raised one piece of dog food making Jesse to run towards him. The dog hovered him and tried to lick his face. "Jesse! Stop!" Colton yelled. He really looks funny trying to cover himself from the dog licks.
He stood up and went to the kitchen. I followed inside with Jesse. He washed his face then wiped it off. "Jesse next time don't be such a licky!" He said.
"Is that even a word? Hahaha?"
"Yes and why are you laughing?" He looked at me straight in the eyes.
