"Collinsville will be different. I promise you will love it." Pearl said to Bean as she tried to console the screaming baby in her arms.
"I don't really care Pearl. Its not like this place is heaven... and being by the sea sounds fun I guess" Bean stated lethargically eager to get away from the banshee.
"Exactly! being by the see will be very fun" Pearl replied over enthusiastically
Bean and Pearl. Two peas in a pod. Well... not really actually. Sister's connected by their dysfunctional childhood and blood relation. Off to live in a New Town! They move a lot ... to say the least. Usually once every 15 or so months. Bean, a 15 year old lean, tall, blonde force to be reckoned with. Her 22 year old half sister Pearl, a caring mother of baby boy Alex (who just celebrated his second birthday! hip hip hooray), a loyal friend and kind soul. Pearl never knew her father, only her train wreck of a mother. Pearl raised herself, and then Bean after she was born. When Pearl was 15, and Bean 8, they left their mum for good. They have been travelling from place to place ever since. That was until Pearl met Luke. Luke was nice guy. But more importantly, Luke was loaded, and utterly in love with pearl. So they had baby Alex when she was 20 and he 27. He works in the city at his father's law firm in order to be able to support his family. He visits once a month.
They made it to the town Collinsville. Let's just say it wasn't what Bean was expecting. At all. She was expecting a sunny overly happy town by the beach. It was by the beach. But there was no sun, only dark clouds in the sky. And the waves didn't look very appealing.
"Why is it raining? Isn't it supposed to be sunny by the beach in August?" Asked Bean, her voice dripping in its usual sarcasm.
"Oh silly me! I must have forgot to mention that this is a special town where the sun never shines and it is only ever dark and gloomy" Pearl replied with a sweet smile on her face, but in an even more sarcastic tone than Bean. "Cheer up Bean! This house is a nice one. And I thought you liked the rain anyway."
"I do" Bean sulked.
Finally their 70s Volkswagen mini van pulled up to an enchanting victorian house. Even Bean was smiling. This definitely was a nice house.
Bean got out the car and stretched her legs. The movers had arrived before them and already unloaded all the furniture into their house. Bean admired the trimmings which decorated the windows. She could see her bedroom. 'Well that's easy to sneak out of' she thought to herself. She wasn't that rebellious. Although she did have a habit of smoking cigarettes, which to any parent would seem like a disaster, but since she was raised by her elder sister she had never received any scrutiny for her vice.
She walked through the house admiring the all marble kitchen and the large white staircase. The house was all painted in pale blues and greys. Apart from her room. She stood at the door admiring the lilac walls and her en suit bathroom covered in yellow subway tiles. She had never had her own bathroom. And this was definitley the coolest room she had ever had
"We must be planning to stay a whilst if Luke's rented us a house this nice Pearl!" Bean called down to the bottom floor.
"Oh we haven't just rented it" Pearl replied walking up the stairs "We've bought it!"
"What?" Bean said in disbelief "Why didn't you tell me?"
"Didn't think it was that important to mention" Pearl replied nonchalantly in her deep southern accent.
"Yeh Right Pearl! We have only ever lived in rented places and for like a year maximum! And your just mentioning now that I might be here for the rest of my life?!" Bean exclaimed.
"Not the rest of your life Bean. You're going to college so another three years maximum! And the only reason I didn't tell you is because I didn't want you to be nervous and feel the pressure to actually settle down and make friends, which you never do. But it is important that you do that now Bean. So I am glad you brought this up!"
"Uh!" Bean scoffed. Typical Pearl she thought.
