Sapnap walked through the halls, biting his lip as he sped up. The hall where room 320 was located was dark, one of the more deserted areas of the school. It was basically part of the basement, just more clean and full of storage items for the teachers.
Stopping to look at each number, Sapnap finally located the 320. Taking a sharp inhale, he hesitated before going in.
What if it's just a plot to kill me?
A shiver ran up his spine, but Sapnap shook his head and stepped into the room.
It was one of the science equipment rooms, with black tables scattered around and no chairs in sight. Surveying the room, Sapnap couldn't see anyone in the darkness.
The door shut behind him. Sapnap whirled around, looking for the thing that shut it as he instinctively stepped back multiple times. Trying to calm his racing heart, he inhaled deeply and blinked slowly.
"Glad to see you made it."
Sapnap nearly jumped out of his skin. Twisting around again, the lights flickered on and revealed the one who had called the meeting in the first place.
"Sorry if I scared you," Karl chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck. Sapnap sighed, clutching his chest. Karl's brown eyes flickered up to look at him, a hint of concern flashing through them before disappearing.
"No harm done." Sapnap coughed, his heart still pounding. What does he want from me? I'm literally nothing to him.
Karl blinked, taking in his words before sitting on the nearest table. He gestured at the table across from him, and Sapnap leaned against it.
"So what's up?" Sapnap said, trying to act natural. Karl seemed to play with the question, a million answers passing silently through his eyes as he glanced away.
"We have to talk. About a lot of things. I-" Karl closed his eyes and sighed heavily, "I don't know where to start."
"Why me? You barely know me." Sapnap shifted nervously.
"I fear you're the only one who can help."

"So let me get this straight." Sapnap breathed. "You think that Dream had something to do with all of this shit that's been happening, and that he's going to do it until he's the only one standing. And," Sapnap paced the room, "You think he's got some sort of superpower where he can manipulate people and make them do what he wants."
Karl nodded. "Exactly."
"Do you know how crazy that sounds?" Sapnap stopped to stare at him, rubbing his forehead.
"I know how crazy it sounds, but there's so much more, like the Inbe-" Karl's eyes lit up with fear, and he quickly averted his gaze.
"The what?"
"Nothing. Absolutely nothing. So the weather-" Karl hastily tried to change the subject.
"Karl, what were you talking about?" Sapnap came closer to him, lowering the gap to only a foot away.
Karl's breath seemed to hitch. Sapnap shook his head, clearly imagining things.
"I can't tell you. I can't tell anyone. I don't even fully know myself." Karl looked flushed and anxious, and Sapnap took a step back.
"I'll tell you my secret if you tell yours." Sapnap said, crossing his arms. Karl rolled his eyes.
"It's not like second grade crushes, Sapnap. We can't just trade."
"Why not?"
"Because for one, I already know your secrets!" Karl snapped, immediately regretting everything as he slapped his hand across his mouth.
"Excuse me?" Sapnap's eyes widened. Karl looked like he was going to cry.
"I- oh shit." Karl looked to the clock. "Looks like I gotta go." He tried to rush out of the room.
"No! You have to tell me what you know Karl! We have literally a half an hour left, bitch!" Sapnap felt the heat in his stomach rising as he grabbed Karl's arm before he made it in range of the door.
"I can't." Karl, exasperated, tried to pull his arm away.
"You can!" Sapnap shouted, grabbing both of his wrists and pulling him back towards the tables. Suddenly remembering the exact thing that had happened that morning, he quickly let go of Karl.
But it was too late.
Karl lost his balance and fell to the floor, his sleeves on fire. Realizing he was about to be burned to a crisp, Karl screeched and tried rolling around on the floor to get the fire out. Sapnap rushed over to a sink, turning it on and trying to grab a cup. They kept getting set on fire, as the situation was making the flames come out faster and more wildly.
"Sapnap, you're gonna burn the school down!" Karl yelled, finally not on fire.
"No DIP!" Sapnap shot back, still trying to smother the flames that were dancing across the papers on the counter.
He couldn't do this, not with all the stress. He threatened Karl's life, the flames were everywhere, the whole school would burn as a result of his uncharted anger.
Not knowing if he could do anything without making it worse, he felt trapped.
He never felt trapped.
"Sapnap, calm down." Karl said, suddenly behind him. Sapnap froze, feeling Karl's hand tentatively rest on his shoulder. The flames died down a little, leaving the scent of burnt toast behind them as they disappeared from view. Sapnap closed his eyes, taking a shaky deep breath.
"How did you do that."
He could almost feel Karl's confused look burning into his back. "Do what?"
"You stopped it." Sapnap opened his eyes and looked at the damage in front of him.
"I don't think I did anything." Karl quickly pulled away his hand, and Sapnap turned around.
"Is that your power or something? Calming people down?" He asked.
Karl just shook his head. "I don't have a superpower. But you on the other hand.."
"No. This is a curse." Sapnap muttered, walking back over to the table. Karl followed, a few feet behind him. "I literally could've burnt you, or committed so many felonies such as incinerating a fellow peer and burning down my school."
Karl chuckled. "But you didn't."
Sapnap stopped, thinking about it. "Yeah, I guess I didn't. Yet." They shared a smile for the first time, which didn't feel as awkward as it should have.
"So about the rest of that stuff I was talking about." Karl shifted around, clearing his throat. Sapnap watched him intently, waiting.
"This morning I got confronted by Bad in the bathroom. He had full red eyes instead of white." Karl confessed, and Sapnap frowned.
"Why is that important?"
"Agh. How do I tell you this?" Karl sighed, rubbing his forehead.
"You don't have to if you don't want to." Sapnap said, his voice soft.
"You deserve to know if we are gonna stop this." Karl inhaled and locked eyes with Sapnap. They stood there for a moment, lost.
"Sapnap, I think I'm a time traveler."
