The brakes began to squeal, indicating that the train was coming to a stop. Draco was quick to stand from his spot across from me and gather his belongings. He freshened up his robes before turning on his heels to face me.
"You can't hide your name from me forever, and once I find out who you are, you'll wish you never step foot onto Hogwarts."
His threat was merely just a joke to me. Who's he to think he can threaten me? I snickered loudly while running my hands over the wrinkles on my robes. As I stood I moved my gaze from my lap to a very confused and taken aback Draco.
"As if you could ever hurt me, Malfoy. You'll come to see that threatening me will be your worst nightmare," and with my words spoken, I shoved the white-headed boy aside and made my way off the train.
. . .
The first years were all lined up on the steps outside of the Great Hall. I hesitantly joined with my bags still in my hands. The other students were talking amongst themselves as I began checking my surroundings. I felt the touch of someone else on my hand which caused me to avert my gaze. My eyes meet with a very welcoming Professor McGonagall. She begins to retrieve my bags from my hands causing my grip to loosen. McGonagall walks away with my luggage before returning and standing in front of us all.
Professor McGonagall gave her speech before leading us into the Great Hall. Everyone's heads turned and I could hear some people whispering amongst each other as I was lead to the front of the hall. In front of me were all the Professors. They shared a few words to eachother while Dumbledore stood from his seat to begin his speech.
He warned us about the third-floor corridor and the dark forest. After his speech, he thanked the crowd before sitting once again. McGonagall quickly came upfront and gave an introduction to the sorting before pulling out a list of names.
As the list went on I felt the pit in my stomach getting bigger. I knew that as soon as my name was read that I would be thrown into a pit of fire, especially by Harry Potter. I'd be blessed if he didn't think terribly of me. My mind began to race, all I wanted to do was run away. My body felt like I had a severe case of food poisoning. Everything became a blur. My heart was pounding against my chest as I frantically looked around the hall. It felt as if everyone's eyes were on me.
"Mercury Riddle," McGonagall's voice echoed through my head. I wanted to hide from her, from the school. I wanted to scream, tell everyone I was sorry for all my father had caused. As my feet brought me up to the hat I felt my forehead begin to sweat. I could hear the gasps and gossip around me, but what worried me most is that I couldn't hear what exactly they were saying.
"Alright dear, sit right here. Come on!" McGonagall pulled me towards the stool. I hesitantly sat down, my mind still running circles, my stomach doing backflips. I felt the hat sit on top of my head, its mind entering my own.
"Ah, a Riddle. Your father did many great things, a very memorable name in the Wizard community I must say. Slytherin!"
My breath hitched. Everything was spinning as I stood from the stool. My eyes interlocked with McGonagall's for a moment, catching a glimpse of her worried expression before my body began to fall. I'd no idea what was happening but my eyes shut and everything became black.
