The castle halls were flowing with students. It had been a couple of weeks since school started and I was starting to fit in well. I wasn't being approached in the halls as frequently by curious students. My studies were going well.
Today was special, though. Zeke and I were heading to Hogsmeade. I was currently standing in my dorm gazing over my outfit which was a plaid skirt and a long-sleeved turtle neck. I had a pair of black see-through stockings on under the skirt as it was a chilly day out. My hair stood high on my head in a bun.
Penny entered the dorm and a gasp came from her. "Oh, you look wonderful!" She exclaimed, clasping a hand over her mouth in shock.
"Thank you," I returned before turning towards her and grabbing my purse. "Zeke asked me to go to Hogsmeade with him today,"
"So that's what the letter was about," she smirked before sitting on the end of her bed. "Well have fun and you best tell me everything once you get back. You are the first girl Zeke's ever showed interest to you know."
"Yes Penny, you've told me several times," I roll my eyes at the blonde girl before slipping on a pair of old combat boots. "I'll see you later," and with that, I shut the door behind me and begin towards the Great Hall.
Zeke stood outside of the Great Hall entrance, interesting himself in a book. As I approached, his gaze looked up and a smile appeared on his face.
"Good morning, Mercury."
"Good morning, shall we head out?" I smiled lightly at the very tall boy as he put his book into his jacket pocket.
"Yes, don't want to get stuck in the crowd, now do we?" Zeke held his arm out for me to take and I didn't think twice before linking my arm with his.
We walked through the gates and passed many groups of staring eyes, though Zeke didn't seem like he noticed or cared. My stomach was a bundle of nerves. I was sure rumors would be going around about us the minute we left the school grounds.
"So tell me about yourself," Zeke said, ending the silence between us.
"Like what?" I say back, confused as to what he wanted to know.
"I don't know," he shrugged. "What brought you to Hogwarts? How do you feel being here?"
"Well, in all honesty, Dumbledore brought me here," I paused, gazing up at Zeke for a moment. He was looking back down at me, his eyes begging me to go on. "My mother didn't want me to come here. But I guess Dumbledore wasn't going to let her get in the way. So he showed up at my house and killed her and my grandmother," I let out a chuckle at the end, still not knowing how to cope with the whole situation.
I mean I guess it was for the better, as they abused me but they were still my family and the only family I had left.
Zeke adverted his gaze to the gravel pathway. "I'm sorry, that must be tragic for you."
"Yea, but there's nothing I can really do about it now."
"And how about your father? Is he helping you through the grief?"
"No, I've never met him. I don't even think he knows I exist to be completely honest."
"What a shame," Zeke looked back at me, sympathy in his eyes. The boy looked as though his veins ran cold blood throughout his body. It came as no surprise to me that his skin was pale like a snowy winter sky.
"I admire Voldemort for his actions," Zeke begins, looking ahead of us towards the village of Hogsmeade. "As a pure-blood myself, I believe all magic should be kept hidden from the muggles. Besides, there's no telling what they'd do to us. Sure, there's the odd chance the muggles wouldn't believe there's a whole other world right in their reach, but with the way history has proved how they act, I've no doubt the magic folks would be imprisoned and slaved for their powers."
