The Arrival of Red Nexus

Alexandria had heard stories about Red Nexus in her childhood. The evil company used to steal Walkers' technology and proclaim it as their own. Their logo was one triangle split into three more red triangles, with the slogan- For the Future.

They were accused of sending the solar storm which vanquished the Walkers' technology. But, they appeared in only fairy tales. No one had seen RX-8s, the drone of Red Nexus, in real life.

Sandra said, "How do we know that is the past and not the future?"

Margrethe said, "It is the future because it matches with the things I have found. Come over to my house now."

Alexandria and Sandra followed Margrethe out of the monument. Jason said, "What, out so early?"

Margrethe gave Jason a look of distaste. "Yes. We have important matters to discuss."

"Jason can come too!" Alexandria suddenly said. "He's very resourceful."

Jason wrinkled his eyes. "Now what did you say about me, my lady?"

Sandra said, "Shut up."

Margrethe said, "Okay, he can come." But her voice was hard. It was clear that she didn't like Jason with his humorous words and manners.

Alexandria thought that Jason was the exact opposite of Margrethe. Jason was the smile to Margrethe's frown, the sun to her moon, and whatnot.

They all went to Margrethe's small house, where she showed them some scrolls. "I found this near the ancient well, where #28300 disappeared. This particular message showed the exact same message we found at the monolith- We are Here."

Alexandria said, "So is Red Nexus true in real life?"

"Yes," Margrethe admitted. "#28300 had discovered that, but her disappearance prevented her from spreading the news."

Suddenly, a siren cut through the air.

Jason scrambled out of the house. "That is an attack siren." he said.

"Yes," Margrethe said, walking out of the house. "The future is unravelling before our eyes."

Alexandria trembled. "You mean-"

She was cut short by a drone, skittering to the ground. Sandra picked it up. "It's an AV-8," she said, her voice shaking.

The AV-8 were like the guardians of the Walker City. So this would mean-

Alexandria shook her head. "We're under attack."

Then two red drones zipped across the sky. Alexandria hadn't seen its type before. It looked like a giant crab, with two red eyes in front. Then Alexandria squinted, and saw the letters painted in the drones' back- RX-8.

"That is the RX-8s, the drone of Red Nexus," said Margrethe.

Suddenly, one of the red drones noticed them. It shook lose its guns, and started shooting.

Margrethe shouted, "Split up!" She took Sandra by the arm and dived behind the nearest rock.

"Alexa, here!" shouted Jason. He was running towards a building, which was momentarily isolated from the destruction all around. Alexandria trailed after him.

When they entered the building, they saw the mayor of the city standing in front of them. "Walkers, unite!" he shouted, and ran out of the building to join the fight. His AV-8 went after him.

Alexandria stopped to take a breath. "Stop," she told Jason. "I think we are safe in this building."

Jason said, "I should go out for Margrethe and Sandra."

Alexandria shook her head. "Stay here. Regain your strength, and then we'll both go."

They both stood there for some time, and then Jason ran out, followed by Alexandria. "Sandra!" Alexandria shouted. "Margrethe!"

No response came.

An RX-8 tried to dive-bomb them, but Jason took out a laser gun and shot it point blank in the eye. It dropped down, and Alexandria kicked it.

Jason tossed a laser gun to Alexandria. "Go search for Sandra and Margrethe," he said. "I'll hold my ground."

Though reluctant, Alexandria raced through the streets, searching for her friends. She shouted their names in vain.

Suddenly, she heard a shout. "Alexandria, here!" She turned to see Margrethe leading an injured Sandra.

"What happened?" Alexandria asked, her voice shaking.

"She got shot by an RX-8 in the leg," Margrethe said. "But we'll discuss later. We should leave."

"Without Jason?" Alexandria asked.

As Margrethe was about to reply, Jason emerged from behind another building. "I'm here," he said. "And Margrethe is right. We should leave."

Alexandria took one last look at the city, which had been her home for her whole life.

Then she turned and fled with the others.
