Chapter 3

  Third person POV 

When Steve woke up he was in a hospital bed and was hooked up to monitors. He sat up and ripped out the iv in his arm and hopped out of bed. He walked down the hall and to Jennifer's room. He stood outside the door debating on whether or not to go see her. At this point she had only been in a coma for a day or two but to Steve it felt like forever. Inside the room Bruce was running a ton of tests on Jennifer trying to figure out what happened. Steve decided not to go in and walked off towards his room. After a month of sadness and sulking Bruce called an emergency meeting to discuss his findings. Everyone gathered in the same room that they were in when they found out what Fury did. "So what have you found Bruce?" Natasha asked. "Well..." Bruce stuttered. "Spit it out Dr. Banner, what did you find." Steve said. "Okay, okay. Almost everything I found in her blood is to be expected except for...." Bruce trailed off, growing nervous. Everyone sat forward in their chairs out of anticipation. "What, except for what?" Bella said. "I don't know. There is an unknown substance in her blood. I will need to run some more tests to figure out what it is, but whatever it is I don't think it was in cap's serum." Bruce said. But before anyone could ask anything he was called out by one of the nurses. He went to Jennifer's room and saw something he didn't expect. Jennifer was having a seizure! Bruce injected her with something to stabilize her and stop the seizures. Once she stopped Bruce began running tests to figure out what the mystery substance was.

After weeks of research and tests Bruce still had close to nothing new. He finally called in Tony and Bella to help. It felt odd talking to them because they had almost gone into complete isolation in the past few months. They came as soon as they could and got to work right away. They worked in silence for days only speaking a few times for updates and even then they didn't say much. Finally after about two weeks of the three of them working together they finally had something. They called an emergency meeting to discuss their findings. It was the first time they had all been in a room together in months and it felt weird to them all. "So what have you found this time?" Steve asked sadly. "Well we have figured out the mystery substance in Jennifer's blood is." Bella said causing the rest of the Avengers and Fury to sit forward. "Well what is it?" Natasha asked. "It's actually a mixture of two things." Tony said. "What is it?" Clint asked confused. "Um.. Belladonna and Hemlock." Bruce said. 

 Everyone sat in surprise at the news but nobody said anything. Finally Bruce spoke up, "Who ever made this serum was either an idiot or a murderer." He said. Again they sat in silence until a nurse called Tony, Bella, and Bruce out of the room. After talking to the nurse they got started on a new anti-serum but this time it would have an anti-poison to help get rid of the Belladonna and Hemlock in Jennifer's system. Clint and Natasha were finally able to get up from their chairs after a few minutes. They walked out of the room barely able to see from shock and tears. They wandered half blind to their daughter's hospital room and sat next to bed. Natasha grabbed onto her daughter's hand and held it tightly, not wanting to let go. She thought she felt her daughter give her hand a small squeeze and she immediately straitened up. "What is it." Clint asked her. "I think she just squeezed my hand. She knows it's us." Nat said. Clint didn't really believe his wife but part of him wanted to believe that it was true. After a while they left to get something to eat and when they came back they saw Bruce, Bella, and Tony who had just walked in. " Hey what's up guys?" Clint asked. "Get Steve and Thor." Bella told them. "Why?" Clint asked. "Because Jennifer is about to wake up." Tony told them. "What do you mean?" Nat asked them surprised. "We perfected the anti-serum and we think it could take anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours. Now go." Bruce told them. They ran off to get the others and came back in mere minutes. "Okay, 3..2..1." Bruce counted down then injected the serum into Jennifer's arm. After a few minutes there was no movement at all. After a while of waiting only Steve remained after he said he would watch for any movement and after a few hours Steve was asleep.
