Chapter 13
"Marcus!"
"How are you, Lory?"
"I'm good."
I twirled my hair staring into the eyes of my unnecessarily handsome cousin, if only we weren't related. I sighed as I stared into his face.
"Lorraine, Lorraine?"
"Marcus?"
"Yes?"
"Why are you so handsome?" He laughed through the phone staring at me.
"Just wait till my employees hear you."
"Why? Should I be scared?"
"Yes, they started a fan club for me." I rolled my eyes.
"That's why your mother opposed you having 80% female employees."
He shrugged his shoulder and ran his hand through his hair.
"What does she want? That I isolate myself from women because I am unreasonably handsome."
"Aunty is scared that someone is going to snatch her boy from her."
He rolled his eyes again laughing.
"Oh, I almost forgot. I sent you a care package, it should arrive sooner or later."
"Oh, my dear Marcus knows me the best? Did you buy the Doritos?"
"Of course."
"I now know what my Dad meant when he said that people who love you will know you."
We made some small talk just when he was telling me about his new recipe my alarm went off, signalling that my two hours are up.
"Marcus I love you, but my time is up now."
"Already?""Yeah. So I will make sure to call you the first on Saturday. At 5 pm."
The beeping sound was heard as I looked up from my phone, that's right I sneaked into the Leaders room because the internet is powerful here and two, I did not need people eavesdropping on my family conversations.
The door swung open as Damon's figure appeared a faint smile on his lips, of course, that smile was not directed at me. He was smiling at his phone as a girl's voice sounded through the phone. I probably shouldn't get caught, I looked around and decided that crawling under the table could be my only option at the moment. I swiftly made my way there making sure to keep my noise as minimized as possible.
"Daria, how is Mom?" He sat himself down on the couch, while the only thing I could see of him was the back of his head.
"Mom, she is Uhm, I, just."
"Daria?"
"I think she was quite shaken up after my surgery, she has been sleeping in the hospital with me not going home a single time. I mean why would she. What would she expect if she went home? Apart from that-"
There was a long silence and I tried to reduce my breathing by a notch, there is no going back, now that I have hidden here if I show myself he will probably jump to conclusions about the situation again, and that would not do me any good.
"Dad.." I am guessing the so-called Daria was in shock, her cheerful voice from a few seconds ago turned into a frightening husk as she said 'Dad'.
"Daria? Daria?"
"Rascal. Can I call you back?" Rascal?! Does she call her brother Rascal? Wow, he must totally be that 'only scary in the army boy', I never thought of him that way.
