Chapter ten: Plan A (Sarah's POV)

"Get up," ordered Haggy, Jareth's main minion, turning the lights on in my bedroom. I groaned, not used to the bright light, but didn't refuse. Who knows what would happen if I did? They could do anything to me. And I wasn't too sure if I would want to risk finding out.

As I rose to a sitting position on the edge of the bed, I clasped a hand to my forehead in pain. I had a terrible headache. That was probably because I had cried myself to sleep the night before, not to mention the nightmares that followed, waking me from my slumber about every ten minutes. I sighed. Well...I might as well get used to it if I'm going to be staying here for the rest of my new immortal life, as I was told that in this dimension neither time nor age matters and people never die of old age but can be killed.

Haggy, from my experience, was very cruel to those around him, all but Jareth, his master, who even expects him to be kind to at least me. I still din't understand why, since I am his prisoner, but after a few of his harsh words sunk in, I decided it would be best if I had ignored it. But by his attitude and appearance put together, whereas most of the other goblins introduced to me had only been judged by appearance, he was a true goblin and stuck out in the kingdom of kind ones.

Perhaps Haggy is the only normal goblin. That's probably why he chose him to be his personal assistant. Or maybe everyone is only following Jareth's orders to be kind to me and Haggy knows how to be sneaky about it and oly let Jareth think he's obeying the rules. But then, Jareth would be trusting a complete liar. If he knows how to lie about that, wha else could he be faking at this very moment?

"The master wants to see you," Haggy said, taking my hand and pulling me to my feet. I kept my mouth shut, though I wanted to say so many rude things, and allowed him to drag me out of the room and down the corridor. Goblins passing by stopped in their tracks and put their backs against the wall, saluting Haggyand me both as I was dragged by. This went on for what seemed like hours, but it might've only been ten to fifteen minutes in my own dimension. And finally, we arrived at the door of Jareth's personal chamber. That was when Haggy let go of my wrist and I rubbed it carefully. His grip was surprisingly strong for a goblin a third of my size.

The vast door that was three times wider than me and reached the ceiling squeaked violently on its hinges as it was slowly pushed open to reveal Jareth's study and bedroom, a desk and the office essentials to my right and a bed, bedside table, and window was to my left. I've never been in there before. Jareth had shown me the door and the pathway to go there when he gave me that tour, but he never opened the door. In fact, he gave me explicit instructions to avoid going in there unless called in by himself or Haggy, HobbleClaw and Spike being the only two exceptions.

Jareth sat at his desk and read, a book unknown to me, for he kept it down in his lap. The sound of the door opening caused him to look up from his page and turn to see who was visiting his chambers, though he most likely already knew. A sly smile spread on his face. I was now convinced this was the only sort of smile he could ever manage to hold.

"Why, good morning, Sarah. Haggy," he greeted, setting his book down on the desk in front of him separating the page he left off on. After that, he pulled himself to his feet. I remained silent as he took long strides towards me, the soles of his shoes clicking on the marble floor and echoing all around the giant room. He stopped just before me with a smile on his face, which seemed extremely out of place with the feeling in the room. It was so early that it was still dark outside, the full moon shining in from the window and the creepy silence setting the mood for maybe a haunted house. At the time, that was all I thought of the goblin king's palace. A mere scheme someone has concocted just to frighten me. That someone was Jareth. Who else would it be? This is all probably a test to see what potential I have. I wasn't sure what sort of potential yet, maybe to become a goblin myself like he was going to do to Toby. But I believed it was best to just play along with whatever Jareth was planning.
