Chapter five: Kidnapped

"What do you mean me?" I asked, the fear returning to me with his words. Of course I knew what he meant, I just didn't want it to be true. He made his way back over to mewith crossed arms and a smile on his face, mocking my fake confusion, which had apperantly appeared real to him.

"Oh, come now, Sarah. You know very well what I mean," he told me. I looked down at my feet and tried to soak all of this information in. What was he going to do with me? Was he going to capture me? Well, there was no doubt in my mind he was going to do that. But what would he do to me then? He got me to care about him already, and he's got enough power to kill me. He may do just that once the right time comes. But, then again, what does he have to gain from all this? What would my death have as an effect on him? Unless...he wasn't planning to kill me?

"Don't let bad man take Sarah!" Ludo shouted in agony behid him. Ludo reached out his hands and stumbled towards the goblin king as if to grab him and strangle him. But before he could get his hands on him, Jareth whipped around to face him and, with a swipe of his hand, used his powers to throw him against the wall. I gasped, my eyes already filled with tears from Jareth's cruel words, as Ludo crumpled to the floor in defeat, his eyes closed shut.

But it wasn't only Ludo who was in pain. Something seemed to be hurting his attacker as well. He gave out a sharp cry of pain and gripped the wrist of the hand he just used to hurt Ludo. I wondered if it had anything to do with his powers being lost. I sat in silence on the edge of my bed, unable to move. I was frozen in place by confusion and fear. It seemed as though Hoggle and Sir Didymus were, too. Ambrocious, who cowered behind Didymus and barked crazily.

It took a moment for Jareth to get to his feet again. As soon as he did, it was to his benefit alone. He grabbed me by the arm and pulled me up to my feet so I was face to face with him. I, too, cowered in fear of him as his stern look was just inches away from my face. I tried to back away, but he wouldn't let me. For a moment, he just stood there, motionless and expressionless, looking into my eyes. This was the first time I'd noticed his eyes. One was hazel, the other brown. I started to feel a small amount of pity for him; his eyes must be permanently dilated from an accident or attack. The thought sent chills down my spine.

"Let's go," he finally said, breaking the uneasy silence surrounding the world around the few in the room. "Edna hasn't given me too much power to stay for long." I had no time to ask who this Edna person was, because at that same moment, he began pulling me away from the others and stopped in front of my bedroom window. Hoggle and Ludo's eyes widened and they began to race over to me. I glanced helplessly over at Ludo as I thrashed my arm to try and break free. Ludo was still unconsious.

"Sarah!" Hoggle called as Jareth threw a crystal into the air over both of our heads. Jareth held on tightly to me  as we began to float out the open window and into the storm outside. The last thing I saw and heard before I had vanished completely was Sir Didymus, on his knees and reaching his hand out to me, Ambrocious running in circles around him and barking even wilder than before.

"My lady..." he said softly, hanging his head in shame of him being unable to save me.
