THRONE OF GLASS by SARAH J. MAASDESCRIPTION: Two men love her. The whole land fears her. Only she can save them all.
In a world without magic, an assassin is summoned to the castle. She comes not to kill the vicious king who rules from his throne of glass but to win her freedom. If she defeats twenty-three killers, thieves, and warriors in a competition, she will be released from prison to serve as the King's Champion. Her name is Celaena Sardothien.
The Crown Prince will provoke her. The Captain of the Guard will protect her. And a princess from a faraway land will befriend her. But something evil dwells in the castle—and its there to kill. When her competitors starts dying one by one, Celaena's fight for freedom becomes a fight for survival—and a desperate quest to root out the evil before it destroys her world.

SERIES?: Yes(seven other books)OVERVIEW: Are you ready for a negative review? Because I'm coming right for you.
Listen; this isn't a terrible book. I enjoyed the beginning and some parts were interesting, but as the book went on, I kind of just became annoyed and uninterested. Maybe I just don't like the writer's voice of the style she uses, I don't know. I finished it though, because I wanted to see if it'd get any better.
One of the centre plot genres is romance which I didn't realize until I started the book, and as you probably know from the rules of these book reviews, I don't like romance. It's a typical love triangle between two best friends and a girl: Chaol, Dorian, and Celeana. Literally half the book is romance. I was in it for a kickass female assassin who was going to show off and beat up some dudes and that did not happen. She kicked ass like once or twice; I was not satisfied. I thought you know maybe it would be a side story, be brought up every once in a while but nope.
It also has lots of cliches. Obviously, the love triangle firstly. Then she also gets a puppy in the middle of it? Like a dog had a mutt litter and there was this one dog that nobody wanted or it was like super aggressive with everyone it met but when it found Celeana, *gasp* it loved her. Like, wow, how many times have I seen that... It was also like "only you can save the world but we don't know why so find out in the next fifteen books"(there are so many books in this series, man).
Low key, I was pretty mad she didn't end up with Nehemia, the princess who came from a conquered kingdom who was secretly helping the rebels to get her kingdom back. They literally had so much chemistry and would have been so cute together >:(. Like they have these moments and I'm like please stop thinking about those two stupid guys. But at the same time, this book was so overwhelmingly straight so am I really surprised?
It also had a lot of unneeded stuff. Like the title, "Throne of Glass"? Pretty fucking stupid. This glass throne that the entire book is named after is mentioned like twice and is so irrelevant. Like, the King lives in this big, expensive, glass castle. Why. Why. To show off? Maybe they explained it in the beginning but it just sounds stupid and either way, it's hardly a focal point of the story. Not a good title for this book. Then, I bring up the dog again because, I repeat, THE DOG SERVED BASICALLY NO PURPOSE. I literally can't come up for a reason for why it was there. Maybe it has a role in the next books but lol I'm not reading those so... Anyway, I also found the Chaol-Dorian-Celeana love triangle super forced. The majority of it focused on Dorian and Celeana's love so you knew they would end up together from the start and Chaol for most of it just doesn't seem interested. Idk, he didn't convince me. She also makes some friendships with the others in the competition, both which I found were brief, undeveloped, and unneeded.
On a more positive note, her PTSD and tales from Endovier, this like horrible death prison she was sent to for a year, were quite entertaining, no matter how morbid that sounds. Her fear and hopelessness was portrayed very well. The few times when she showed off her skills were good as well, and I was somewhat interested in the murder mystery that went on throughout the novel.
PERSONAL RATING: 49%(I don't like giving negative reviews and I feel super bad! But the points added up like this and I don't really want to change them)
