OVERVIEW: I discovered this book when I visited my sister in the city and we went to a Chapters store. It was in the section of books that were recommended by the staff, had the iconic #1 New York Times bestseller writing on it and it looked interesting enough so I bought it. At the register, the man who sold it to me was ecstatic I was buying it, told me I was making the right choice, and mentioned his friend was doing some essay on it for university.

For me, personally, I try not to usually buy books that are so popular and his recommendation actually turned me off a little just because I didn't want to be disappointed. But oh my, was I completely not.

This book has everything: fantasy, action, adventure, a tinge of romance, revenge, a pirate-like time setting, original characters, just enough plot twists, backstories, alternate points-of-view, great pace and fantastic writing. Once I was through the first half, I stopped my nightly routine of writing a little then reading and read as much as I could every night until I was too tired to focus purely because it drew me in so much. I fell in love with every character(Inej is my personal favourite, I have to say) and when I wasn't reading, I was thinking about what was going to happen next. I could spend all day naming all the reasons this has quickly turned into my favourite book.

I would proudly recommend it to every reader looking for a new excellent book to get wrapped into, and I eagerly await for my order of the second book, Crooked Kingdom, to arrive so I can spend all my time reading it and then I will read all of the author's other books right after. Leigh Bardugo is my queen and I worship her and you should, too.
PERSONAL RATING: Yup, you saw it coming. 100%. If I had to make it lose points, it might be for the description as it doesn't do it justice but I don't think anyone could sum up this story in a way it deserves.
