My chance gradually started approaching when one of the bodyguards, Ekow began to show interest in me, at least he wasn’t that bad to look at, and that was some sort of comfort so I actively encouraged it. I’d flirt with him constantly and get him all hot and bothered and then, send him away with a promise of more to come, or some other excuse like I needed to attend to a client.

The one good and useful thing about Ekow was his love for talking. The handsome idiot lived on interesting conversation and my experiences in life gave me a lot to talk to him about.

I don’t want to toot my own horn or anything but the way I asked him questions was so carefully done that I had extracted all the information I needed to help us all escape, from how guarded the house was to our location to how far we were from society...

Everything I could possibly need... it’s funny how we never got caught, but like I said, loopholes in every foolproof plan. Now all I had to do was wait for the opportunity to present itself.
It did come much sooner than I had expected, but I was ready for it. Mr and Mrs Amoah had to go on a trip and they had left the head guard in charge of us... wanna guess who that was?

It was Ekow, now that was easy, I knew you’d get that right. With him now in charge and with no one there to give us orders, Ekow became much more blatant showing off that we were together. I was now treated like a queen and kept away from servicing our clients, it was like Ekow wanted me all for himself.

Surprisingly, the young man listened to some of my pieces of advice and put them into action. All of us girls were now allowed to socialise among ourselves a little bit and thank God for that, I was able to finally reach out to Edina. Well, life had been much better for her save for this experience.

She had moved in with really nice foster parents and, even though they were not well to do, everyone felt loved. Unfortunately for her, they had been involved in an accident, thus she had entered the system again, till Mr and Mrs Amoah came for her as well.

I promised her that I was going to get us out of here... and maybe get the other girls too out while I was at it.

Ekow had told me that the Fetu Afahye festival... a festival the people of Cape Coast celebrated, was approaching and I was hoping that Edina and I would be able to get out then.

I didn’t trust Ekow though... despite his seemingly nice persona, I had seen him murder in cold blood, guards who had tried to question our relationship, and I knew that he wouldn’t handle my trying to escape very well. I couldn’t let him or anyone for that matter know that I knew Edina as the other girls had started to resent me because of Ekow's special treatment, and so I had to silently watch as she continued to service clients. I guess that was the price I had to pay for our freedom... watching her suffer.

By a month to the festival, we had settled into a routine. Clients came in from nine pm and we took care of them till the wee hours of morning when we had to retire to bed but my schedule was quite different. Rather than be with clients, I spent my working hours hanging out with Ekow. He was a very demanding man and honestly, I’d had enough but there was nothing I could do. We had brunch at 12 noon, dinner at six and then used the rest of the hours to get ready to begin the cycle again.

Though Ekow was much nicer to me than the other guards, he had no respect for my body. He'd use me anyhow he wanted and then pass out like a log for hours. I used to cry in the bathroom whenever he was done with me, turning on the shower full blast to muffle my sobs, but then I realised... maybe it was a good thing.

Ekow sleeping with me gave me some immunity, plus... whenever he was with me... all the other guards were out there at the working area, watching over the girls and making sure clients didn’t take more than their money’s worth.

That gave me free time to roam the halls and really check the place out. I had discovered some kind of underground tunnel on one of my walks, but sadly it was locked and the keyhole wasn’t like anything I had ever seen before.

There were bars... the ones that looked like prison bars instead of a door, yet they were too small for me or even Edina to squeeze through, so I went back to my room after another fruitless search, feeling strongly disappointed in myself.

For days I wondered where it led to, perhaps outside? No. That would be pushing my luck quite bit.
