Debbie
"How do I look?" I twirled nervously in the ruby dress for Ma, Julia, and Annie.
"Gorgeous!" Ma exclaimed.
"Beautiful!" Julia clapped her hands.
"Red?" Annie grinned.
"Thank you Annie, I needed that," I rolled my eyes.
"It's true," Annie laughed, "But you do look lovely."
I smiled shyly, "Let's go find a dress for you girls to wear," I dragged Julia and Annie into our room, Here," I pulled out a dress for Annie, "That should fit. And here," I pulled an emerald colored dress out for Julia, "It should bring out your eye color."
"Thank you," The both squealed and hurried to put on the dresses.
"We'll look better than Caroline that's for sure," Annie told Julia as she slipped the dress on over her head.
Julia stifled her laughter, "Maybe not better, since she always wears her Sunday dress to these events, but we'll still look good I'm sure."
"I'm sure you'll both outshine Caroline," I smiled.
"You've met Caroline?" Both girls said at the same time, their eyes wide.
"Yes," I furrowed my eyebrows, "Why? Was I not supposed to have met her?"
"No," They both answered again.
"Why not?"
"Well," Annie drawled.
"Because she'll feed you lies," Julia looked at me blatantly.
"Why?" I persisted.
"Because she's a no-good person who'll just do everything to make your life miserable," Julia tossed her hair, "Where did you meet her?"
"In the General Store," I took my braids out, "Why does she want to make my life miserable?"
"Because you're living with us. And she practically hates everyone here, except the humans in breeches," Annie started to put my hair up.
"Keep Alex safe for me please," I grinned evilly at Julia, "I don't want him to be clobbered by her."
She snorted, "Tough luck. You're going to have to get someone else for the job."
I grinned smugly, "I'll get you to do it, just wait."
"And I'll help you," Annie giggled as she re-did her hair, "Although," She leaned in and whispered to me, "I saw him give a letter to Ma for the post office, and it was addressed to a Katherine person."
My jaw dropped, "I totally forgot about her," I bit my lip, "Hmm. I like Julia better."
"You don't get to chose your in-law Debbie," Annie giggled.
It dawned on me that I was most likely doing the very thing that I had eariler scolded Alex for. Matchmaking.
"Are you guys talking about me?" Julia looked at us pointedly from the other side of the room.
"No-Yes-" Annie and I both answered.
"You're lying Annie," Julia grinned, "I can see it in your eyes."
