"Really?" I interrogated, "When is he arriving?"
"Well I'm not really sure," Alex sat down on a wicker chair, "And I don't know his age either."
"Too bad," I kicked my feet forward to get the two-seater swing going, "I hope it's a cute baby." My thoughts turned toward what the boy would be like. I hope he turned out to be an adorable three year old.
"Maybe. Ma and Pa don't know how old he'll be. So be ready for a surprise." Alex grinned his signature grin.
"Great," I rolled my eyes then had a thought, "Just wait, it'll be Brighton." I grumbled.
"Hardly," He laughed, "He just turned sixteen, didn't he?"
"True..." I brightened up. "I'm glad he did too. Otherwise I might die." I over-dramatized.
"No you wouldn't," Alex rolled his eyes.A month and a half later.
Isaac
"Isaac?" Ma called out the door, "Can you come here a minute?" I jogged my way over to where she stood, "Yes Ma? Do you need something?"
"Well, I was going to tell you that I can't go with you to pick up the so called, 'Henry Blackwood' because of Mrs. Waters is having a baby soon, and everyone elected me to help her deliver." Ma sighed. "So I was thinking maybe you could ask Debbie or Alex if they wanted to go with you, since they're English, and might make Henry Blackwood feel more at home." She smiled.
"Sure Ma," I turned to go.
"Actually Isaac," Ma began again, "Debbie can only go if Alex goes. Sound good?"
My face flushed, "Perfect," I muttered and ran off before Ma had a chance to say any more.
"Sun too hot Isaac?" I looked up to see Alex leaning against a fence post with a piece of straw in his mouth, smirking.
"Uh..." I kicked the dust with my toe, "Actually Ma was wondering if you wanted to come with me to get the new boy, since she can't make it. She thought having you and Debbie along might make things easier."
Alex raised an eyebrow, "Me and Debbie?" He smirked again.
"Ma's idea," I smirked back.
Alex chuckled and slapped me on the back good-naturedly, "Let's go ask Debbie what she thinks.""I actually have to go..." I paused trying to think up an excuse, "Feed the horses." It was true. I hadn't fed the horses yet, and they needed to be fed. It was just a little too early for dinner.
Alex looked at me as if knowing that I was trying to get out of talking to Debbie, then he turned and started walking towards the house, "The only way to get rid of your fear is to face it," He mumbled, but he didn't press me into talking to her.
I let out a deep breath that I had subconsciously been holding and started walking towards the stable.
"You can't even talk to a girl younger than you," An infamous voice scoffed.
I ignored Zeb and kept walking towards the stable.
"You can't get a girl without talking to her," he called after me, "Otherwise she'll never get to know you and never get to see your potential."
I stopped in my tracks. Was it true? Should I have gone to talk to her? Or ignore him altogether?
"At this rate I'll still get her and you'll just be a bachelor." Zeb provoked.
I whirled around, "Just you wait, I'll get to know her when I pick up Henry," I smirked as I saw Zeb's face register shock. Then I continued back towards the stable. You don't even know if she wants to go yet. But then maybe she will...either way, Zeb doesn't need to know.
