A chance encounter

Chapter 1: A chance encounter

(Note: the characters are people but they have animal traits like cat ears and tail or dog ears and tail or bunny ears and tail, etc. You get the point. Otherwise, the characters are human)

Koe p.o.v. 

I was running, running so fast... the chase, it was exhilarating. The cat ran away so fast, it was exciting! I wasn't going to kill him, he was my best friend, I just wanted to catch up to him. The game we were playing had me so excited! But then, I lost him and called out "bye Nero! I'll see you later!" Happily I stood back up on two legs and walked normally back to my house. On a whim, I decided to walk through the park, taking in the scenery and looking up at the birds in the sky. A smile was permanently plastered to my face. Soon enough, I made it onto the street that my house was on and then I looked up at the night sky. I was surprised because even the night sky was somehow lit up. Worried, I took off running to my house. 

When I got there, my eyes were lit up with licks of orange flames. I didn't see any of my family anywhere, our house was on fire. My ears perked up at the sound of fire engines coming this way, I couldn't help myself, I sat on the ground, howled, and then bawled my eyes out. As the sirens drew closer, the world seemed to spin.,  

In a cold sweat, I awoke curled up in the corner of the alleyway, panting as if I had ran a marathon. Remembering that day always freaked me out. It happened almost a month ago, yet it was still fresh in my mind. I never found out what started the fire, but I lost all of my family that day. My mother, brothers and sisters, all of them, they had been in there, and they failed to escape. 

Since then, I've lived in the streets, finding food wherever possible. It was hard, and summer was coming up and it was going to get hard to find food. I looked up at the sky and it was early morning. Waking up slightly, I rubbed my eyes and stretched, then scratched my ears and decided to get up and search for food.  

Cautiously, I slunk out of the alley, watching out for any cats or street dogs. When I was sure I was safe, I started to cross the street. When all of a sudden, blinding white lights came straight at me. Before I knew it, I had been hit. The pain I felt was almost undescribable, but then I passed out, falling into painless bliss. 

Beep.. 

Beep.. 

Beep.. 

Beep.. 

I heard a beeping noise and my eyes were heavy, I couldn't have opened them if I tried. I listened hard, perking my ears. Other than the beeping, I heard the quick tap of someone's foot against tile floor. The place I was in smelled of sterility. Based on those observations, I could tell I was in a hospital room, and that someone was sitting beside me. 'But who...? I don't have any family anymore...' I thought. 

Suddenly, I became aware of a pain in my neck and back and I groaned slightly, then tried to open my eyes, which I was finally able to do. Seeing was virtually impossible, I squinted my eyes at the bright light above me and then turned my head to the side, which then again made me conscious of the pain in my neck. "Ohhh..." I groaned then wimpered. I. Couldn't remember what had happened to make me feel so much pain but then I opened my eyes more and noticed another inu looking down at me. 

(An: inu means dog in japanese) 

His hair was blue-black and his eyes were a light blue and his ears flopped lightly down over the sides of his head. He looked distraught and quite worried. As soon as he saw my eyes he let out a sigh of relief. "Oh thank god. Thank. You." 

I looked up at him. "Who are you? What happened? Why am I here?" I questioned with rapid succession.  

He sighed again. "Okay, okay, please calm down." He rubbed the back of his neck. "Uh... where to start.. well my name's pit. Uh, I accidentally hit you with my car, and well, uh, you got hit pretty hard so I brought you to the hospital." 

I winced as I sat up, noticing there was an IV in my arm. "Oh. Well my name is koe." I said with a big smile. So... is there a doctor? I mean, I guess I'm in no hurry to leave but... I hate hospitals."  

He looked confused but then I could almost see the light bulb go off in his head. "Oh, yeah. He told me to get a nurse when you woke up so I'll be right back." He smiled slightly then went off. I just sat in the bed and drummed my fingers against my thigh, forgetting the pain. Soon enough, Pit came back with a nurse. She checked my pulse and looked me over and after a long time, she told me I could leave anytime.  

My smile broadened and I nodded happily as she unhooked me from all of the various machines and helped me stand up. She looked at pit with a question on her face "will you be the one to take him home?" 

He nodded yes. "Yes, I'll take Koe home."  

She nodded once and handed Pit all of my belongings and she helped me walk over to him. He lightly grabbed my arm then helped me down the hall, out the front door, and over to a large white van. I paused in my tracks and looked the van up and down. "This looks oddly suspicious... are you sure that you're not going to rape me?" 

He laughed. "Nope! I'm in a band, so I need a van. Plus I just turned sixteen and just learned how to drive. No worries." He smiled. 

My tail wagged, I was excited for a car ride. He opened the passenger door and allowed me to hop in, then he got into the drivers seat. "So where do you live?" he asked. 

"Where do I live?"  

"Yeah. I'm taking you home, remember?" 

"Oh uhm..." I bowed my head and whispered quietly "I don't have a home.." 

"What?" 

"I- I don't have a home. I live in an alley.." 

He looked at me with a determined expression and said confidently, "then you're living with me." 

I just looked at him bewildered. "What?" 

"You're coming to live with me. I hit you with my car, I mean, it's the least I could do." 

After that logic, I didn't fight with him. That's how I started living with Pit.

Chapter 1! A prologue really, my first story! Sorry if the beginning was a little sad, but it'll get much much better! Promise :) so tell me what you think. What do you think of pit? Of koe?
