Ophelia had now been waiting for an hour. She really had no other way home today.

She gave the last of her money away to a mother who couldn't pay her son's hospital bills. Which was good, but she wished that she kept a tenner for the journey home.

Both Montague and her father were out of town, an unlucky coincidence. Madeline and Novea lived out of town as well and they both didn't have cars yet.
If she ever gets out of the hospital lobby, she'll get her father buy her a bus pass.

All she could do was sit there and fiddle with the small peice of paper in her hand. It changed every day without fail for 3 years. They've been with her through all her ups and downs. The only thing that kept her buoyant in the sea of misfortune she waded through. It made her smile and laugh. Each of these little slips of paper were tacked on her bedroom wall, she treasured them all, especially the ridiculously cheesy one liners.

She skimmed through the ones she took photos of on her phone.

"I like how brave and righteous you are. Back in elementary you were my role model and you still are."

That was one of her favourites, it made her feel like a fighter, a warrior.

Madeline was right. Why couldn't she have fallen in love with the mail guy who made her feel like she could take on the world and win?

...

After another hour, Ivo strode in without a care in the world. His face a picture of slight annoyance.

Ophelia could feel her frustration and anger bubble. Without a word she made her way out the hospital and toward the car park. She already knew he was going to turn up late anyways. He always did.

But this time, it hurt her. She couldn't push down her negative emotions with her blind love anymore.

"Hey! Wait one second!" Ivo shouted at her. "Slow down. Wait for me."

"'Wait for me'? Oh, Ivo, that's all I've been doing ever since I've known you." She accused, pointing a finger at him.

"What? Look, I'm sorry I'm late. Let's just get I the car first, it looks like it's going to rain."

A few tell-tale drops fell onto to the pavement.

"No! You've been treating me like crap this whole time. And I hate myself for letting you. You make me wait for you every single time. I had to wait for you after school so we could walk home together, and even then sometimes you leave without a warning.

"I waited for you to say something when those fangirls of yours attacked me. I waited for two whole hours today, in a hospital you know that I hate being in.

I waited for you to love me back." Her voice cracked, the weight of her crush had finally broken her.

She had enough. What was the point in loving someone like him, someone who so obviously despised her.

The rain started to pour down heavily. Ophelia's light brown hair turned black with water. She didn't cry but her face was covered in salty droplets of the Earth's despair.
