The following week, Kamari was at Parker's apartment and her mom was there also.

"This boy got this place a damn mess", their mom said as she was picking things.

"It's not that bad mom", Parker said.

"It is", she replied.

Kamari chuckled.

"I never thought you'd step foot in her mom", Kamari said.

"Yea, it took for me to get shot for her to visit", Parker said.

"Yea, because I realized that at the end of the day you are still my son and no matter how mad and upset I am with you, you or I can leave this world at any minute. So...that doesn't mean I need to keep my distance from you", she said.

"Mhm", Parker said before he looked at Kamari.

Kamari looked like she was thinking. She was zoned out.

"You okay?", Parker asked.

Kamari looked at him.

"I'm fine", Kamari replied.

"...things good with you and QC?", Parker asked.

"QC? Who is that? The boy you did that song with months ago?", their mom asked.

"Yea. They dating", Parker said.

"No we aren't. Not anymore", Kamari said.

"What happened?", Parker asked. "What he do?"

"Nothing. Its...I think it's something I did. I mean like I wanted to break up with him but I don't know if it was for the right reasons", Kamari said. "Well true reasons"

"I don't know why you mean by that", Parker said.

"Explain?", their mom asked.

"I don't wanna talk about him right now guys", Kamari said.

"Well I'm available when you need me", their mom said.

"Okay...but I just came to check on my big bro", Kamari said as she touched his shoulder.

"Damn", he said as he moved her hand.

"Oh my bad", Kamari said.

"Mama", Parker said as he faked cried. "Mari hurt me"

"Oh shut up", Kamari said.

"Yes, please", their mom said.

Kamari smiled. "I'll catch you guys later", she said. "I have business to handle"

"When will you be coming out with another song? I need some music to jam to in the car", their mom said.

Parker palmed his face.

"I'm actually recording another song today", Kamari said.

"Good", their mom said.

"I'll see you guys later", Kamari said

"Bye", Parker said.

Kamari left.

(AT THE STUDIO)

"Ooh, the reason I hold on
Ooh, 'cause I need this hole gone
Well, funny you're the broken one
But I'm the only one who needed saving
'Cause when you never see the light
It's hard to know which one of us is caving", Kamari sang.

Song: Stay - Rihanna

"Not really sure how to feel about it
Something in the way you move
Makes me feel like I can't live without you
It takes me all the way
I want you to stay
Stay
I want you to stay
Ooh", Kamari sang.

The producer stopped the track.

"And done", he said.

Kamari took off the headphones and walked out of the booth.

"And you really just freestyler that?", he asked.

"Yea. I might just redo it. I know it probably wasn't the best", Kamari replied.

"No. It was great actually. A lot of artists need writers but you don't. Have you ever thought about writing music for other artists? You can get more income like that", he said.

"Yea but not now", she said.

He nods.

"But thank you for squeezing me in. I'll just go before it's someone's turn", she said.

He looked at his watch.

"Yea, he's running a little late so it's good that I wasn't wasting my time anyway", he said.

QC walked in and Kamari and him looked at each other.

"Kamari", he said with a nod.

"Hey, Quinton", she said.

Quinton looked her up and down. Not in a negative way. He was just looking at her outfit.

"Bye", she said as she walked passed him and left.

Quinton shut the door and started walking to the booth.

"Awkward", the producer said.

Quinton chuckled and shook his head.

"We just going through something right now", Quinton said.

"So y'all ain't broken up though right? Because y'all are cute today", he said.

"...nobody did nothing wrong but I just don't think we were ready for a relationship. We both have some things we need to work on before we can move forward. If we can move forward", Quinton said.

"Now I'm seeing where that passion and lyrics came from", he said.

"Huh?", Quinton asked.

"The song she just did. It took her a few tries but it came out really good. She wrote it on the spot", he said.

"...how did it go?", Quinton asked.

"I did to mix and master it and besides you know Kamari is strict about her music. Nobody can hear it until it comes out unless she gives permission", he said.

"Yea. That's Mari", Quinton said with a smile as he thought about her for a moment.

"But come on. I got places to be and people to see", he said.

Quinton walked into the booth.
