The Adventures of Lynn Potter

Chapter 1

I stepped onto the platform. Time to get back on the train. I ran through the barrier. Finding myself near a scarlet steam engine, packed full of children and teenagers carrying trunks. Out of the corner of my eye, I see a girl in a purple sweatshirt with baggy jeans on.
"Lynn!" She yells, "Over here!"

"Coming!" I walk towards the train car she's waving from. She helps me pull all my belongings on to the train. We both sit.

"Another year at Hogwarts!" There's a shake in her voice as she says it, as if she's a bit nervous.
I nod, "Fifth year, can you believe it?"
She shakes her head.

We sit in silence as more students file on to the train. She's my best friend, Elena Lovegood. My head turns in the direction of the door as a boy with messy black hair and round glasses stumbles on to the train.

"Lynn, why didn't you wait for me?" He asks, slightly out of breath.

"I wanted to meet Elena and get a good seat," I replied.

I get up and help him out his things in the compartments above our heads. He sits next to Elena and I. The train starts to move.

"Where's Luna?" The boy inquires, looking towards Elena.

"Oh, she's in a different compartment, probably with Ginny," she answers, seeming a bit sidetracked, looking away out the window.

"Why don't you go find her Harry?" I suggest, I want to talk to Elena without him overhearing.

"Alright," he climbs out of his seat and walks towards the door. He waves, and moves to the next compartment.

"Is everything alright?" I say, quietly so the other students in the compartment don't overhear.
Elena mumbles a "Yes," It isn't very convincing. She's still looking out the window. I'm about to pry further when the woman with the food trolley comes in.

"Hello dears! Would you like anything?" She asks with a smile on her face.

"I'll take two cauldron cakes please," I say, handing her some gold.

She gives me the cakes and bustles off to the next students over. I hand one to Elena. She takes it, but doesn't begin to eat. I'm starting to worry, but I don't think I'll be able to get her to talk until we get to school. I pull out a book and start to read.

A couple hours later-

Kids are beginning to change into their robes, so I grab mine out of my bag and head off to change. When I come back, Elena is gone. I look around, confused. She must have just gone to change, I thought. But she wasn't back by the time we arrived at Hogwarts.
