Every day was the same. Wake up, take a shower, eat breakfast, go to work, go home, eat dinner, go to bed. Only on the occasional Saturday would Ciel take a trip to the grocery store or visit one of his friends at the bar.
This day would be different.
Ciel woke up to the regular 6 o'clock buzzing of his alarm. After turning it off, he fumbled around in the dark looking for his phone.
Brushing his hand over something cool, he heard water gush over the nightstand followed by glass shattering on the floor."Shit," Ciel muttered under his breath. Sitting up, he reached for the lamp and tugged on the chain. His room was suddenly enveloped in brightness.
Rubbing his eyes, he crawled out of bed stepping down onto the cold floor careful to avoid the broken glass.
Tiptoeing around the shards, he left the room closing the door.Making his way to the kitchen, Ciel noticed a cat sitting outside on his window ledge. Not paying any mind to it, he walked over to the closet and retrieved a broom and dust pan.
Turning around, he noticed that the cat was gone.
It's odd that a cat would be out here, thought Ciel as he made his way back to his room. After all, his little house was twenty miles away from the closest house.Opening the door, he walked over towards the glass. Suddenly a sharp sting met the bottom of his foot.
Ciel gasped as he fell over backwards onto the cold hard floor throwing the broom onto the bed.
A trickle of blood started to run down the bottom of his foot as he pulled it closer for examination."Just my luck!" Yelled the boy as he reached for the first aid kit tucked away under the bed.
Opening the lid, he rummaged through the small box full of medical supplies.
Grabbing tweezers, gauze, a band-aid and an alcohol swab, he closed the lid and slid the box back under the bed.
After crossing his legs, the boy gathered the supplies and went to work removing the glass. After finishing, he carefully wrapped the gauze around his foot, whimpering as a sharp sting was felt again when he tied the ends together.
Standing up on one leg, he placed the supplies on the stand then reached for the broom and dust pan. He hastily started sweeping up the glass.
Dumping the shards into the trash can, Ciel flopped back down onto his bed.
After laying there for a few minutes, the sun began to peek over the hill.
Grabbing his phone he noticed there was one missed call.
Holding the phone to his ear, he listened to the message. He heard his managers voice say, "Hey Ciel! It's Bard. I was just calling to tell ya that you won't need to come into work today. My car wouldn't start and I was to lazy to find a ride. Oh, and Mey-Rin called in 'sick' so... ya. You have a free day. Bye!"
Ciel placed his phone on his lap and let out a sigh. He was a little disappointed by the news. Working at the candy shop made him happy. He loved working with his friends. Besides that, he had a weak spot for sweet things.
Deciding that he should do something instead of sitting at home, he decided to take a walk in the woods.
His buddy Finnian had told him a story about an abandoned cabin last week. It was rumored to be somewhere near Ciel's house.
Of course he didn't believe the story, but it couldn't hurt to take a look around.Standing up to see if he could walk on his foot, he headed towards the bathroom to prepare for the day ahead of him.
