I stood in front of Kipp and shoved my arm into the laser canon my father had built as the monster strode towards us. It was smaller than the beasts that had attacked the city but seemed to be faster too.
The Guardian was making a beeline for Dustin and the general met the attacking monster head-on with his katana drawn. He stood tall and planted his feet firmly in the ground.
I wanted to tell him to dodge but I knew it would be fruitless. The young boy had faced down Dragons before and had been trained in fighting giant monsters but these creatures were something special.
The amount of power it took to bring down even the ones that attacked Lumen City was almost too much for the city defense to manage. I didn't want to think about what would happen if Avian took too long.
The stone titan's two top arms went up and then slammed down onto Dustin. He parried both strikes with his sword and stood strong in the dirt.
The general pushed away and faded back before the attacker could use its other two arms to slice him to pieces.
Geolus spoke an incantation and waved his arm in the air. The earth beneath the monster's feet suddenly gave way and it partially fell into the ground.
Dustin seized the opportunity and charged at the beast with his blade pointed at its chest. It was swinging its arms around wildly to try and impede him while trapped so I decided to provide some assistance.
I aimed my weapon and fired energy blasts at each of the swords. As the blows made contact with their targets, the arms stopped moving briefly.
"Now's your chance, Dustin!" I shouted to him. I knew that this wouldn't do any good at stopping the Guardian but if we could injure it, that would by us desperately needed time.
Dustin jammed the tip of the blade into the purple chest of the opponent and a shockwave erupted from it alongside an agonizingly loud scream.
The force of the wave knocked me off of my feet and sent dust into the air. Alongside the dust in the air, Dustin crashed down next to us from being launched.
The wave subsided and I was able to open my eyes and see that the beast was now freed from the ground and lumbering over towards us.
The ground had been torn up and the trees around us were snapped. Did it unleash all that energy just from being stabbed once?
Dustin struggled back up to his feet and readied his sword once again. "Dustin, you can't seriously be trying to fight that thing? It'll kill you!"
"The girl is right!" Geolus chimed in. "This Guardian is the strongest I've ever encountered. In all my years I've never figured out how to beat it."
Dustin shook his head. "I don't need to beat it, but I do need to hold it off. It'll just chase us all down and pick us off if we don't hold strong." Dustin argued. "Watch Kipp and keep him safe."
With that, the general charged back at the monster. He dodged a sword strike and dove to the beast's right. He pointed one of his arms at its chest and fired one of the knives from his arm launcher at it.
The knife bounced out of the way harmlessly and he was forced to duck and roll to avoid being chopped into bits.
My heart crawled into my throat as I watched him narrowly avoid attack after attack from afar. "Can't you cast another spell?" I asked Geolus.
The Spellcaster's eyes snapped open and he thrust a palm forward. "Working on it!" A cloud from above sent a giant lightning blast down that electrocuted the Guardian.
