I pushed open the doors and looked outside to see smoke filling the air and fires raging through the city.
Sirens were blaring and intercoms were shouting at people to evacuate the danger areas immediately as the attackers laid waste to anything in their sight.
The creatures were giant stone titans at least two stories tall that carried massive stone swords in their hands. Purple energy pulsated through their bodies. One of them fired a purple laser from its chest that obliterated the street in front of it.
The monsters were destroying the northern part of Lumen City and local police stood no chance at stopping the massive beasts.
I looked around and counted about fifteen Soulwielders were present at the moment including Seltzer and me.
Seltzer got everyone's attention and began to give orders. "I will handle the ones attacking the western area." Seltzer pointed to three Soulwielders. "Protect and assist any citizens in need of help." He divvied the remaining Soulwielders into groups. "Each of you take one of those monsters and try to hold it off until military aid can arrive."
Everyone nodded and ran off to their assignment. I followed the other two Soulwielders in my group, they were named Al and Cia, and we ran to the east where one of the Titans was tearing up a residential district.
"T-that is a Death Bringer!" Unity recalled. "They were built by the original Soulwielders to guard the temples but became corrupted during the Shadow Wars!"
The Death Bringer raised its sword to demolish a building as we arrived. "Great, but how do I bring them down?" I asked.
Al conjured a wave at his feet and had it slam into the beast. It turned around and swung its sword at him instead of the home.
Cia leaped in front of the blade and blocked it by conjuring a wall of ice. "Kid! Hit it while it's open!"
I nodded and ran towards the beast but noticed it was charging a powerful beam from its chest. "Earth Shield!" I stopped and slammed my staff to the ground just as it fired its purple death ray.
The ground around me rose and protected me from the laser. "The beast is running on Corrupt Energy. You will need Life Energy to effectively combat it." Unity reported.
The shield collapsed and the monster was preparing to strike us again. "Well, I don't have that! Shouldn't Ice Magic work? It's made of stone." The blade swept across the ground and we jumped away from its range.
"Made of stone eh?" Al mumbled. They must've been confused as to why I was talking to myself but didn't seem to care. He twirled his staff around and pointed it at the Death Bringer.
Nothing happened and the beast ran at us. "It is incredibly resistant to all but the strongest Elemental Magic!" Unity reported a bit too late.
We slid under the colossus and fired ice magic at its back in unison. The beast whipped around as its back was frozen solid and it tried to bring the sword down on us yet again.
We all dodged with ease and I seized the opportunity it had presented us. "Ice Hammer!" I shouted as I jumped onto the blade and ran towards the Death Bringer's face.
My staff's end was completely frozen in the shape of a hammer and I slammed the frozen weapon into the attacker's face. The beast fell over and I landed on the roof of a building to catch my breath.
I looked out at how the rest of the battle was going and saw most of the Death Bringers were handling the Soulwielders with ease. Except for two.
Seltzer had engaged with two beasts at once and even from where I was, I could see the damage he was doing.
