I woke up to a warm Carl snuggling into my side. It feels like nothing can hurt me. Not as long as I have this kid's love. But I really have to pee. I slowly and carefully slipped out of his grasp. I walked into the kitchen, to see Maggie shucking corn. "Can I use the bathroom?" She smiled. "Of course. It's down that hallway," She pointed across the kitchen. "on the first left." I nodded and walked to the bathroom.
I walked outside and breathed in the fresh air. It felt so good to finally be up and walking around, especially outside. "Hey, Dani." Daryl came up and put his arm around my shoulders. "How are you doing on this fine morning?" I giggled. "It's perfect out here." He nodded. "I'm gonna go look for Sophia," I raised my eyebrows and made a face that said, "Me too?". "by myself." He put extra emphasis on the 'myself' part. "Come on Dare. Please?" He shook his head. "You need to take it easy for a couple days. You just escaped death. No need to invite him back so quick."
Glenn came up to us. "Hey Dani, could I talk to you?" I nodded. "Yeah, what's up?" He looked over at Daryl. "Alone." Daryl took the hint and patted me on the shoulder and went god knows where. "So what do you need Glenn? Is everything okay?" He had this big grin on his face. "Yeah, it's great actually. I need to talk to you about a girl." Oh boy. This ought to be interesting. "Who might I ask, is this about?" He looked towards the house. "Maggie." Huh. Was not expecting that. "And what happened between you two?" He smirked. "We did it."
"You guys did it. As in, the deed?" He nodded. "Yeah, ok. That part was great. But, now she won't talk to me. I mean, I don't know what I did. Do you think.... you could talk to her?" I thought for a second. "So let me get this straight. You want me to talk to your girlfriend about why she won't talk to you after you guys had sex?" His face turned red. "Yeah. But she isn't my girlfriend. Not yet." I playfully punched his arm. "My little bird is leaving the nest." He rolled his eyes and smirked. I'd get around to it eventually. Not in a rush though.
I walked into the Greene house. As I walked into the kitchen, a short blonde girl, maybe sixteen, stopped me. "I'm Beth. You're Dani, right?" I nodded. She pulled me in for a hug. "It's nice to meet you. I believe Carls lookin for you." "Thank you." Her smile, I swear it could light up a room. She seemed so happy and cheerful.
I felt small arms wrap around my waist. "Hi, Carl." He pulled back and I turned around. "You look like you've gotten taller." His face lit up. "For real?" I smiled and ruffled his hair. "Yep. Not before too long, you're gonna be taller than me." He chuckled. "That's gonna be fun." I made a sour face and put my hands on my hips. "For you, maybe. I'm probably gonna have to look up to you." He smiled. "So what do you have planned for today?" He looked like he was thinking, then he got this great big smile on his face. "Maybe you could teach me how to shoot?" As if his mom would ever allow that. "I don't know buddy. It's up to your parents." He sighed and trudged outside. I'm assuming he was going to ask his mom.
"Hey, Dani? I was wonderin if I could talk to you?" Maggie walked down the stairs and stood in front of me. This was probably about Glenn. "Sure. What's up?" She lead me into the kitchen and we both sat down at the table. "Okay, I'm gonna tell you somethin, but you can't tell anybody. Okay?" I smiled my most reassuring smile. "I promise." She smiled to herself. "I uh, went on a run with Glenn and we," she kind of bobbed her head from side to side. "You know. Had sex." She laughed at herself. "But anyway, he won't talk to me. I know I didn't do anything wrong. I also know I rocked his world, so there's no reason for him to be upset."
I put my hand over my mouth to try and stop from laughing, but that proved useless. Maggie nervously laughed. "Am I missin somethin?" I put my hand on her shoulder. "Maggie, talk to him. He said the same thing to me earlier. You guys just need to communicate with eachother." She had a sigh of relief. "Thank you, Dani. You're the best." She practically skipped out the front door. I was getting up out of my chair when I heard a single gunshot.
