LUNA

Janet woke me up as the sun was rising. She gave me the cold shoulder all morning as we got ready to go meet the others to train. I was exhausted and sore from being attacked by that dragon last night and just wanted to stay in bed all day, but of course, I couldn't do that.

Savannah fixed us some eggs since Sarafina was still at the infirmary. She was also acting distant as well, only saying a few words to me as we quickly ate breakfast. I knew she was angry at me for running into the Temple and I knew it was idiotic of me to have done that and didn't blame her one bit. What I had done could've killed Sarafina.

I felt like strangling Lauren, but I kept in mind that I was the one who had made the decision to go in there in the first place, that she hadn't forced me to do it, so I had accepted the consequences.

We headed back to the spot in front of the woods where we were going to continue to practice magic. Dominic was the only one there and we waited for the others to arrive.

Dominic, not meeting my gaze as sat on the ground, going through the spell books that were spread out on the grass in front of him, said to me, "I heard you had an exciting night, Luna."

I swallowed, knowing that he knew what happened last night. I had no idea how he managed to find out, but he did, and I didn't dare ask. I swallowed again before speaking. "I'm really sorry, Dominic."

He still didn't look up at me. "For someone so dead set on trying to save the world and make sure everyone is safe, you sure make a lot of reckless decisions that can cost people their lives."

"I am sorry."

He finally met my eyes and the anger that raged inside of them made my heart skip a beat. "Sorry isn't going to fix what happened. The dragons aren't going to attack us, thank goodness, but they're considering stopping the protection of our realm. You managed to possibly ruin our safety net all because you don't know how to listen."

"I -"

"I don't want to hear any excuses. Just grab a book and start practicing spells."

I glumly did and moved away from him. The others arrived shortly after. They didn't say a word to me, and I knew it was because I had gone in there without them. I could've gotten myself killed and risked us never get the chance to open a portal. Madeline Silver arrived and helped us practice. She was the only one who would speak to me.

I couldn't make up my mind about Madeline. She had been dead set against torturing my mother several years ago. Even though it had been several years ago when they were much younger, it still pissed me off that she would do something like that and it helped my mom decide to leave the magic world.

It made me wonder if she hated my mother so much, why she was so willing to help me out. Since I was her daughter, it would probably make her not want to have anything to do with me, but I guess the threat of the world ending would cause you to do crazy things.

We practiced spells all day. I wanted to ask her all sorts of questions about her and my mom, what happened to Grandma Marie, but any time I would try to bring it up she would snap at me that there would be time for questions later and kept showing new spells for me to try.

I ended up mastering the levitating spell, blending myself in with nature, creating light, creating wind, creating water, and starting to teleport. It all sounded like I did it all in one sweep - no, it took several hours, from dawn to nearly midnight for me to get those spells down. They were simple, easy spells that a lot of new sorcerers and sorceresses were able to master in their early years, as well as teleportation, but Madeline said we had to wait until tomorrow, and I agreed wholeheartedly. My knees were like cooked noodles, wobbling and buckling beneath me and I felt like falling face-first on the ground.
