Note: This story strays from canon by adding the existence of Sirius' sister. I don't know how much it will change the Harry Potter series, but that will be discovered as I get a more clear plan and write more.

February 20th 1969

Maia Black woke up before the crack of dawn. It was her eleventh birthday and the day she was going to get her letter to Hogwarts. Her parents talked a lot about their experiences, how they were both sorted into Slytherin and very proud of their family and legacy it held. All Maia wanted in the world was to make her parents proud.

But there was another issue. Maia had not performed any actions that would show her magical ability. It worried her, but she had to believe she would get that letter.

The night before when she was heading to sleep, she had heard her parents talking in her fathers study.

"She hasn't shown any magical capabilities!" She recognized her mother's voice.

"We need to wait, she has to get her letter. We are the noble house of Black and we cannot accept a squib." Her father stated blatantly.

"You're really considering throwing her out if she doesn't get a letter?"

"Yes. And you should too, all squibs in the Black family have, and I'm prepared to do the same with our daughter." Her father's voice was stern and it seemed there was no chance in changing his mind.

She then heard frustrated noises from her mother and footsteps toward the door. She decided it was best not to be caught listening, so she went to her room and prayed that in the morning she would get her letter, her parents would be proud of her and everything would be alright.

The only thing she wanted was to go to Hogwarts, be in Slytherin house, get a good ministry job and marry someone her parents approved of. If she got that letter she would do anything her parents wanted her too.

But the next day would be far from alright.

Maia was obviously the first person in her family to wake, so she walked down to the drawing room. Maia took a seat on the nearest sofa and looked around. She had lived in the house for her entire life but it still often creeped her out. The house was old and almost rotting from the inside out, she didn't understand why they couldn't just move or fix the place up, her family had enough money but it seemed they liked the vibes it gave of, they fit her parents personalities. She relaxed and thought of her family and how she needed today to be the best birthday.

Her family was far from perfect, but she held it dearly in her hands. Her parents were strict, but they never did anything to permanently hurt her. She was extremely fond of her younger brothers and was always prepared to stand up for them. She and Sirius had a special connection she couldn't describe but they were very different in many ways. Sirius had always been the rebel, Regulus was always wanting to be like Sirius but he always found himself backing down. And then there was Maia. Her goal was not to be a rebel, but to make her parents proud. Though making her parents proud was not in her nature, she always seemed to do something wrong, defend her brothers too much, or just simply exist.

Maia didn't realize how long she had been sitting in her thoughts until her father showed up. She shot up when she heard his voice.

"Come on down Maia, we have a birthday to celebrate." He said with very little excitement in his voice.

Maia walked down behind her father and found a chair at the dining table. Suddenly Regulus and Sirius popped up from nowhere it seemed like and screeched loudly "HAPPY BIRTHDAY MAIA!".

She smiled immensely and thanked them. And she was surprised when her father didn't tell them to be quieter. Maybe she was just worrying too much.

Walburga was the last to enter the scene. She had already gotten ready for the day, and sat down across from Maia.
