It'd been almost two weeks since the bakery incident and Violet had her memory reset. Things returned to how they were before, but all Maia could think about was how Violet reacted to magic. And her words, 'And what? We go back to how things were before? Where you're keeping HUGE secrets from me and I'm completely oblivious'. Because that's exactly what happened.

"Goodmorning Maia!" Violet announced as she walked into Maia's apartment all preppy and seemingly excited.

"What's got you in this happy mood?" Maia asked, looking up from the daily newspaper, a smile on her face.

"Do you want some tea? I'm going to make some tea." Seeing Violet now more clearly as she made her way in, Maia noticed she was also fidgety.

"Uh, sure. Do you want help?"

"No. no. I got it."

But by the time she brought the tea down, Maia had to grab it from her hands so they wouldn't fall. "Tell me what's going on."

Violet after working herself up started, "So you know how I was applying to universities awhile ago?"

"Yes, did you make it into them!? Did you make a decision!?" At Maia's excitement Violet's face fell. "Did you not make it in?"

"No, actually I made it into all of the ones I applied for."

"Then what's the problem?"

"Well, I made it into all of them, including Cambridge."

"That's amazing! You should be proud of yourself."

"I am. But I want to go, and that means I would be moving away." Oh, that part was just finding its way into Maia's brain. "And if I'm going away, I don't want to be in a long distance relationship in my first year."

Maia wrapped her hands around her tea thoughtfully. "You should go. You will go, because I know it's what you've always wanted. I would- could never let our relationship stand in the way of that."

"So you okay with it?" Violet asked, "I'm planning on breaking up with you, and you have nothing against it?"

"Look Violet, I love you, and sometimes that means letting you go on with your life the way you want." Maia began, "But I also know that recently things with us have been..."

"Off?" Maia nodded. "I've noticed it too, but it's still breaking me to do this."

"I know, but I think it's for the best." As soon as the words came out Maia knew she had messed up. Violet's widening of eyes proved it.

"Are you not sad about this?" Violet asked almost harshly. Maia did not have tears in her eyes unlike Violet, and her face had barely changed. "Because I thought I was good at reading you, but I can't find any emotion. You say it's for the best, what is that supposed to mean, that you've been thinking of breaking up with me already?"

"No! And I am sad. But I am used to people leaving, it's not new. I'm just not surprised about our situation."

"Is that all I am to you! Just another person leaving you, like your parents, huh?" Maia tried to start speaking but Violet continued. "I thought you agreed with this, that you loved me, but I'm just someone else." Violet deadpanned.

"No, that's not what I meant." Maia felt herself tense up, "You know I've never been good at showing emotions. And we- we've had a better relationship than I ever had with my parents, I just meant that I agree with this, but I'm just almost surprised we made it this far."

"Maia, I have never been in love with anyone else, and I know you haven't either. But I don't understand what you are saying. When I first asked you out at the bakery, I wasn't surprised you said yes, or when I said I love you or when you said it back, because I felt something strong for you. I just don't understand, are you trying to make people leave you or not love you because it almost sounds like it."
