When doves cry

Lucy was sat in her desk chair, backlit by the glow of the town lights below. She patiently tapped her fingers against the armrest as she waited for her babies to  return. There was a sharp knock on the office door before Ricky was pushed in.
"Mamá-"
Lucy sighed, cutting him off, "Francesca, querido, where is my other son? I sent for both of them." she called out, ignoring Ricky's guilty looks.

Francesca appeared in the doorway, hands clasped together. "Sorry Mamá, he was nowhere to be found when I arrived, Legs warned him to 'get gone' straight after you called him." she lied, not wanting to face the disappointment of Lucy Goldsworth.
Lucy simply thanked her and Francesca disappeared, closing the door after herself.

Ricky stood around awkwardly for a moment before making a move, "Mamá I swear this isn't what it looks-"
"Mijo, do not tell me what I should believe, it is my judgement, not yours", she rebuked, "Tell me exactly what happened here. Who died and made you head of the family?! You aren't rid of me yet, so stop pretending you are."
Ricky was aghast, upset by the thought that his mother was proposing. "Mamá, I'm not- we're not-"

"You continually disobey me, Mijo, you disrespect and ignore me. You act like what you do won't catch up to you", She sighed deeply, "I'm getting too old to keep running around after you- when will you realise that your actions have consequences?"
"Mamá, it's not that I don't understand, I just I don't like being told what to do", Ricky confessed quietly.
"I know querido, you get it from your father" Lucy reminisced sadly.

Ricky never met his father, he had only ever heard the whispers.

"All I ask is that you tell me the truth" Lucy asked softly.
"I will Mamá, I'm sorry" Ricky replied, actually meaning it that time.
"I think there someone else you need to apologise to as well, querido."
"You're right."

Tinsley was walking back from the pub in the rain, his trenchcoat keeping him dry. Luckily, his throat stopped hurting a day or so ago, so his pint was tolerable. Rain rolled off the brim of his fedora and onto his exposed nose. Suddenly, he felt the hair on the back of his neck stand up, as if he was being watched.

Tinsley spotted a familiar silhouette leaning against the flickering lamppost across from his apartment. Ricky's dark hair wasn't like it had been the night things had gone sour between them, the rain reverted it to it's natural, bouncy state. Small raindrops beaded on his long eyelashes, giving the appearance of tears when he blinked. The smaller man's white shirt was soaked through, clinging to his muscular build.

Ricky lifted his head up, locking eyes. The smaller man's eyes were full of remorse, sadness, even. Seeing Ricky standing pitifully, waiting for him in the rain made the Detective almost feel guilty.

Almost.

For a couple of minutes neither of them spoke. Tinsley stepped in closer, directly in front of the smaller man.

"Hullo, Tinman" Ricky mumbled awkwardly.
"Hullo yourself, asshole."

It was silent for a minute.

"Five days I waited for you, Ricky, five days. You didn't even call to see if I was okay!" Tinsley snapped. The rain began to pour.
"I was wrong," Ricky stated, his control slipping, "I don't know what to say, I-"
"Then don't say anything. Don't say anything at all if you don't really mean it" Tinsley replied coolly.
"I do mean it, I'm sorry!"

The Detective turned to walk away.
"Charlie, please-" his hand curled around the taller man's bicep.
"How do I know you're not lying to me?" Tinsley questioned aloud with a crazed laugh, "How could I-"

Ricky rocked forward onto his tiptoes and kissed him passionately, wrapping his arms around Tinsley's neck. The Detective's eyes widened quickly with surprise, before he found his ground and wrapped his arms around the smaller man's waist.

Tinsley was still pissed, sure, but he could've easily have stayed in that moment forever- all the woes of the world forgotten while wrapped up in Ricky's arms.

"I really think we should go into my flat now, before one of us catches a cold."
"Good idea, Detective."
