SCIENCE!!! Well I hope you like it and are proud that I wrote it quite fast. We should have a week off so I have some more time to write things and you may get a new fanfic kinda soon. Mat and Rob are both so cute I'm just dying from thinking of them doing dumb things together. Also I have never played Portal but I know Mat loves the game so I can easily imagine him trying to build something from it, emphasis on TRYING.

As the sun was setting and others went to sleep there was one scientist, called Mat, wide awake. He wasn't going to quit working just for sleep, maybe for something else but that option hadn't been presented to him. He had been working on this new experiment for several hours now, he really didn't keep track of time so he didn't know the specific numbers. A few footsteps could be heard approaching behind him in his lab and he turned around to see who it was. To Mat's delight he saw his assistant had come back with food and drinks like he had requested. He took a glass of water off the tray the food and drinks were on and returned to his work. His assistant, Rob, set the tray down and peeked over the working scientist's shoulder to see what he was working on this time. He didn't really know what exactly Mat was building, but the way he worked looked amazing and difficult to do even though Rob knew it was a piece of cake for him.

"God damn, you are amazing Mat. I don't know how the hell you can make these kind of things with such ease" Rob said just staring at Mat's hands as they worked on the machine.

"Well it's easy when you have practiced for a long time" he said and quickly glanced over to Rob to see his face lit up with amazement. "And of course natural talent helps a lot" Mat added, the attention already getting in his head.

"I probably couldn't even make a simple contraption and here you are making these super complicated looking... thingmabobbers" Rob said as he tried to find a word that described the thing Mat  was building currently but to be candid, he had no idea what the hell it was. This made Mat chuckle like usually when Rob tried to explain complicated things in subjects that he had little to no knowledge in.

"It's a prototype for a portal gun" Mat said clearing what he was building to Rob.

"So when do you think it's ready? It's getting really late" Rob asked wanting to go and get some sleep already but he knew if he went without Mat he wouldn't go to sleep at all, resulting in a sleep deprived Mat working on possibly explosive things. Mat inspected his work quickly, it seemed ready to him and he really wanted to impress Rob right now so he just decided to call it done.

"Actually it's ready right now!" he said proud of himself and his accomplishment.

"Really?! Does it work?" Rob asked excited.

"Only one way to find out!" Mat said as he stood up and picked up the portal gun of the table only for it to fall in pieces. They both stared at the portal gun that was now in shambles. Mat's shoulders sunk as he saw all his hard work gone, it wasn't the first time an invention of his had failed but he had used some much time on the inside mechanics only for him to not attach it properly. He was frustrated at himself and he just stood there clenching his fists trying not to punch something.

"Don't worry you are still the greatest scientist-boyfriend there is" Rob said and hugged him in an attempt to make him feel better. Mat just turned to face Rob and pulled him in for a kiss to calm himself down.

"And you are the best assistant-boyfriend there ever was" Mat said after pulling away for a breath. He smiled to let Rob know he was okay and not going to have a mental break down or a fit.

"Want to go to sleep?" Rob asked returning the smile.

"Sounds good to me" Mat responded, actually enjoying the idea of sleep right now after a hard working day. And so Rob dragged his scientist to the bed so they could both finally get some well needed rest.
