Chapter Two: Recovery

Angel dashed to Junipers' side, sheathing the revolver into its holster and rolling Juniper onto her back. "Are you alright Juniper? He murmured in a panic stricken tone that had Juniper's heart skip a beat in her chest.

Juniper groaned low in her throat and shook her head. The wound at her shoulder throbbed painfully. She clamped a shaky hand over the gash and felt the warm stickiness of blood seeping through her slender fingers. "That animal nicked me on the shoulder," she whispered. "I don't think it's that bad." She finished with the last of her strength she threw her nearly limp arm over Angels broad shoulders; he wrapped his corded arm around Junipers waist and the other across her shoulders.

Then they both walked slowly back toward their camp site. "We'll get you fixed up Juniper. Don't worry alright." His soothing tone seeped into the deep flesh of Juniper's cold skin and she wondered how long it's been since a reaction like this ever happened to her. 'Never'. My mind thought and a small smile tugged at the corner of Juniper's mouth.

"I'll be fine." I groused softly. Her long hair falling from the ponytail that she put up before she left the camp site.

Juniper heard Angel chuckle low in his throat. I doubt it." He said as they continued to shepherd her back to the campsite. "You're weak from the lack of blood that you lost already. L wouldn't call that being fine." Juniper could only nod and lean heavily against Angel for support.

My shoulder was stitched up from the encounter with the wolf, I was grateful for Angels help at stitching my shoulder and hoped that the wound would heal but time could only tell the difference. I lay on one of the out spread sleeping bags that I had set up the day I came close to the wolf's territory. Angel was outside checking the area for anymore danger due to the fact that it had everything to do with my recent encounter with the wolf.

'I should be dead.' My mind thought but quickly added. 'But Angel saved me from being wolf meat.' I scoffed, thinking how dangerous this particular kind of field is for me and reminding me of the attack. A groan escaped my throat and then I tried sitting up but pain flared from my shoulder and I slumped heavily back on the sleeping bag. I rubbed a hand across my forehead and swiped away the sweat that formed there.

Angel came back in with a look of worry on his face. I felt my heart contract slightly. "So..." I began, my tone sounded hoarse and throaty yet I managed to say what had hounded my thoughts since Angel had left. "How's it?" Angel cleared his throat before complying.

"It's safe for now." he answered softly. "How's your shoulder?" his gaze perused my face before settling on my bandaged shoulder.

"It stings a little bit but I think I'll live." I replied in a shaky tone. "What time is it anyway?

Angel glanced at his watch and answered. "It's going on two thirty." he looked at me a second time and asked "You hungry?"

Now that Angel mentioned it to me I was pretty hungry considereing the fact that I hadn't eaten all day and the lack of food in my stomach caused pangs of pain to sting my abdoman. So simply nodded and said "Yes now that you brought it to my attention. I hadn't eaten all day."

Angel's eyes seemed to soften slightly and a small smile formed on his lips. "I have to go into town for food."

"What happened to the food that we had?" I asked weakly. I shoved at the fall of dark hair that framed my face and looking at Angel with absolute concern on my face.

"The bears at it all." he replied calmly. "Now I want you to stay here and wait for me while I head toward town so I can get food alright."

I nodded firmly and said. "You becareful on you way, Angel." He only shook his head and exited the tent, leaving me alone in the vast expanse of the forest.
