| Present Day |
The echocardiogram rang out loudly as her heartbeat continued to stay steady. Tony messed on one of his monitors, glancing at Bruce he heaved a heavy sigh. It had been a little over eight months since Steve had woken up from being in the ice, yet this girl showed no signs of waking. Everyday that passed was one day closer to her death. "Tony, what if we switched this here, maybe we have a better chance of her waking up sooner." Tony glanced over watching his every move before glancing back at the girl, she had to be no older than twenty-five, she never aged a day. "I don't know Banner. If we mess one thing up Captain America would have our ass." He chuckled as he sat down, pen in his mouth as he began to think. What if she never woke up? He rubbed his temple lightly before looking at the clock. "F.R.I.D.A.Y, can you connect me to Rogers quarters please." Tonys voice boomed through the quiet med-bay. "Mr. Rogers is currently in the lounge, would you like me to summon him Mr. Stark?" Tony rolled the pen between his fingers before answering a swift 'Yes'. Bruce was still typing away over there but to their dismay they couldn't find anything wrong, he was hoping if Steve came, and spoke a little bit to her that he would help her wake up.
He refused when she first got here, only wanting to see her awake. But daily he'd ask if there was any change. This was the only thing Tony could think of to help her. The sound of the door opening and closing brought Tony to his senses, turning around in his chair he sighed. Steve wasn't the least bit happy, his lips pursed together making a straight line. "I told you I didn't want to be in here until she was away Tony." His voice was low, Steve's heart clenched as he saw her hooked up to wires, unconscious. He felt it was his own fault and he couldn't bare to see you in this condition. "I know Rogers. But We've tried everything. I'm hoping maybe you talking to her or something, that it'll help her wake up. Y'know a familiar voice." Tony leaned back in his chair as he watched Steve sit beside the sleeping girl. Steve lightly took your hand, stroking it lightly, it was hard to believe how much you two had been through in the past.
"Hey Y/N." He whispered softly. "I hope you can hear me. The world as we knew it is different, the way people speak, the way they dress." He chuckled softly at the thought of the culture shock you were going to face when you finally did wake up. Tony stood to his feed as your heart rate increased. "Steve keep doing what you're doing! Her vitals they're spiking and responding to your voice!" Tony began quickly typing as Steve continued to speak. "I-- Uh can't wait to take you to the museum in D.C. they have so many things from our days of taking Hydra down. And.. There's even a whole section for Buck.." Steve choked on his words as he voice got hoarse, tears pooled into his vibrant blue eyes as he held your hand even tighter than he did before. Your vitals slowly steadied once more and Tony groaned. Steve stood to his feet letting go of your hand as he went to peak at the screen. "They went back to normal." Tony mumbled placing his head in his hands, he felt defeated.
Steve walked out of the med-bay, as he walked up to his room silently he placed his hand over his mouth and leaned on the wall, tears quickly streaming down his cheeks. For a second there he thought he was going to be getting you back finally after so long.
