Standing in the middle of the Council chambers, Ahsoka looked at the familiar faces.
Master Windu, as ever, looked like a cliff. Stern and unyielding.
Master Yoda was smiling, his big green eyes gazing up at her.
Master Plo was hidden behind his mask, but their Force bond was strong enough so that they could tell each others emotions. Master Plo was feeling a mixture of bittersweet sadness, and joy, on seeing Ahsoka.
Finally, Master Windu broke the silence to begin the meeting.
"Ahsoka Tano, you have been invited here today so you may choose to rejoin the Jedi order. We will hold no grudge against you if you turn away, however, if you do choose to rejoin our ranks, you will be accepted as one of us- a Jedi Knight."
Ahsoka considered the offer carefully, weighing both sides, her heart screaming at her to join, her head using logic to decide. If she joined... would it be any different? In her time away from the Order, she had learned what people thought of the Jedi, what they thought they were like... and more importantly, what they wanted the Jedi to be like.
If she joined the Order again, it would be the same. One Knight among hundreds of others. Discardable. Expendable. But, if she refused, she would hurt Anakin, and his expression... She flashed back to when she left for the first time.
"Ahsoka wait! Ahsoka, I need to talk to you."
"Why are you doing this?" he had questioned. His emotions were spilling over, the hurt in his eyes apparent.
"The Council didn't trust me, so how can I trust myself?"
"What about me? I believed in you. I stood by you."
"I know you believe in me, Anakin, and I'm grateful for that. But this isn't about you. I can't stay here any longer, not now."
"The Jedi Order is your life. You can't just throw it away like this. Ahsoka, you are making a mistake."
"Maybe, but I have to sort this out on my own, without the Council and without you."
"I understand. More than you realize, I understand wanting to walk away from the Order."
"I know."
That day... It had hurt for so long, the pain numbing her senses. Did she regret her decision? Sometimes she did. But it had allowed her to see the world in another way. Allowed her to see with a clear view what the Jedi really were.
Anakin remembered how he felt the day she left. The pain and sorrow in her eyes. And watching her walk away... down the steps and over the horizon. The memory still ripped him apart.
Ahsoka's tears stung her eyes, and she blinked them back. Does history repeat itself? she thought. If it does, then...
