Things were definitely different. I felt like my life was falling apart in front of me, constantly surrounded by the touch of death. I couldn't help but think about it more than one should.
The only other constant in my life has become the dirty blonde hair and brown eyed boy. He was far from perfect but he stayed and he cared. That's all I could ask for at this point.

I had stopped showing up to school altogether. At this point it had been about 2 weeks since I had gone to class. The phone would ring out in the big house, empty attempts by the school to locate me. My mom had told me I should go but would still lie for me. That I wasn't feeling well, or I had appointments. I'm not really sure why she did it but she did.

I was sitting outside the big door of the house on the ledge when I saw Constance approaching.

"Hello girl. You've gotten quite aquatinted with my son now haven't you?"

I sighed making eye contact with her hard glare.

"What do you want Constance?"

"Alright fine, not in the mood for casualties are we? I'm here to talk about exactly that, my son."

"What about him?"

"You've managed to stay with him through so much. You know all the shit that comes with that boy, the dark past, twisted mind, and yet you never leave, never tell him to go away."

I look at her a little lost by this sudden speech.

"I care about him."

"I know. I don't really understand why. But I do know he cares about you too. That's why I think you should never leave."

"What are you saying? That i'm going to leave him?"

She starts approaching me, her gaze never leaving my own.

"I'm saying that it's inevitable that you will have to. You will do what he never did, grow up. You'll move out, meet another boy, one that's alive. Tate will become nothing more than a distant memory, one you'd rather forget."

My heart twinged at her words. They stung because I knew there was truth I had just never thought about it. While his soul would be stuck here, mine would go on in life. I couldn't come up with anything to say so she continued talking.

"See girl, I know you know that I'm only telling the truth. But you can't leave him. He might not be my favourite child but he's the only one I can make anything up to. He's been a teenage boy angry at his mother for 20 years for gods sakes!"
