-Chapter 3- The Gate and Sleepovers

It was 8:00 I saw Jonathan in the kitchen talking with a girl. I looked over at them, they had some pictures in hand and kept looking back and forth at them. I walked into the kitchen and grabbed a glass. "Hi I'm Nancy Wheeler." The girl next to Jonathan said. Her voice wasn't deep but it wasn't too soft. "I, um... I'm y/n." I said. She looked at me and nodded she then looked back at the photos. "Jonathan what could that be? I thought we closed the gate?" She said. "It could just be an animal or some weird shadow from a branch." Jonathan replied. That's all I heard from the conversation. "Gate..." I muttered. I looked over to the photo in Nancy's hand. "What gate." I asked. They looked at me weirdly. I heard Nancy say something about how I knew about the gate. "It was glowing red. Have you heard of it?" I looked at Jonathan and nodded. "It opened didn't it." I said to Jonathan. "Yes bu-" I left out the door and grabbed my bike. I didn't hear any of the rest of what he said, but it didn't matter all I needed to know was that the gate opened.

I had arrived at mikes house. I knocked on the door and a woman answered. She had strawberry blonde hair. "Hello are you looking for mike?" The woman asked. "Yes, is he here?" She looked at me and nodded then pointed to the basement. I went inside the home and walked into the basement. As I passed the woman I had a nice whiff of peaches and chlorine. I walked into the basement and saw Mike on the floor trying to work his walkie talkie. "Y/n, what are you doing here its so early?" He said moving the dial on the walkie. "Do you know of a glowing red gate?" I said looking at him. He looked up at me and stared me dead in the eye. "Sure. How did you know about that gate?" He asked me in reply. "I was born in a lab. Either way its open again." I said to him. "No... Who told you this?" He asked me. "I heard Nancy and Jonathan talking about it." He looked at his walkie talkie and moved the dial. He started to talk into it, "I need to meet everyone in the basement now." I was confused. I felt something touch me not anything human. I then fisted my hand and shot it across the room and burnt it to ashes. It was just a sock. "Sorry" I said to mike. Weirdly enough he looked at me and his jaw dropped. He kneeled down to the now ashes and picked some ashes up. "H-how did you do that?" He asked me. "My powers?" I said confused I didn't know what else to say.

Everyone in the group walked in. I was scared, mostly nervous but only because of max. Max walked in and Lucas grabbed her hand. Ugh I hated it. "Hey y/n." Max looked at me and smiled. "Hey Max." I blushed a little. El came in and smiled. "Hello y/n." "Hello el." I said in reply. She saw mike and ran towards him. "Mike are you okay?" she said to him. He replied by telling her what i did. "So y/n can also burn things?" El asked. "Not only burn but shoot them far away and turn them to ashes." Mike said. "Can you show us Y/n?" Max said. I looked at el, she seemed jealous. I knew why. I was gonna talk to her later. "Sure" I said. I put my hand out forward and lifted a old shoe, I used my abilities to shoot it across the basement and burnt it to ashes. They all looked like they had just seen a ghost. After that, Mike told them about the gate and that it opened again. After that when I checked the time it was early afternoon. I pulled el aside and whispered to her so no one could hear. "El, do you like Mike?" I whispered to her. "What no!" She said and waved her hands. Everyone looked at her. "Maybe a little." she whispered back into my ear. We grabbed each others hands and jumped up and down. El grabbed my hand and leaded us back to the group. "We are gonna go. I'm gonna spend some time with Y/n." We left the house and she hopped on the back of my bike.

We went back to her house and I noticed it was in the woods. We got off the bike where the trail stopped and started walking toward her house. I didn't know the way so I just ended up following el. At last we arrived. It was nice, not to big, not to small. "Stop!" she yelled. "Oh I'm sorry." I said. "No you didn't do anything there is just a trip wire between where your walking." El said. "Oh okay, thanks El." I replied. She nodded and guided me away from the trip wire it was in between two trees. El opened the door and we both walked in. We walked into her room and sat down on her bed. "So Y/n what do you wanna do?" she asked me. "Well what would you like to do el?" I smiled. "You know what's fun?" El asked me. "No, what is it." I replied. "Lets call max." she said. I almost panicked. But I tried to ignore all feelings about it, I didn't want to like her. She'd never like me back, we wouldn't have a chance. I told her ok. She called Max and Max said she'd be there in an hour.

While we waited we played a few games and watched a movie. Then she asked me, "Y/n who do you have a crush on?" I blushed. I wanted to tell her, but I didn't know how she was gonna react. A few minutes had past since that question it was silent. "C'mon Y/n I told you who I liked! I would never tell ANYONE." I trusted her in that moment. So I told her. "El... I like Max." I said quietly. "Max? really? I thought you liked Will!" she said laughing. "Wait so you don't care I like Max? Even though she's a girl?" I asked her. "No, I think there's a connection between you too. I also kind of figured. You get all tense when Lucas kisses or holds Max's hand, or even if he's just close to her. You clench your jaw and you fist your hands." she said. "Wow not the reaction I expected." I said. We both laughed. At that moment Max walked in. I didn't realize an hour past by. "Hey y/n." Max said walking to me. She got close and gave me a hug. El giggled a little I couldn't help but laugh and blush. "What?" Max asked confused. "Nothing." El said. We walked into El's room with Max. We played board games and spied on the boys, then after we just went to bed.
