"Dazai-chan, we're here~"
They finally arrived at their destination.
The towering building that was the Port Mafia had five towers looming over the entire city like a giant colossus. It was a proud kingdom that had all its loyal servants wearing their crimes like rich and kingly capes.
Despite the intimidating display of buff men walking with guns, Dazai couldn't help but feel that familiar sense of disappointment. Did her mother really think the Port Mafia was going to be worse than the slums? No matter how she looked at it, this so called infamous organization was just another gang no different than the ones in the slums.
Mori seemed to believe otherwise, his cheerful smile turning into a serious countenance she only saw when he was treating his patients, "Stay close to me," He said, taking her hand in his much larger ones and giving it a gentle squeeze.
"Sir," One of the bodyguards opened the door, keeping his head bowed as they stepped out of the black car.
Dazai walked hand in hand with Mori while passing several mafiosos patrolling the premises and others who seemed to be returning from their missions.
Not just any mission, suicide missions with strict orders to not return until the mission was complete. Wiping out small organizations never caused panic within the community because those organizations never got to make it big enough to actually be considered as competition worth remembering. In a dog eat dog world, only those that were willing to kill and commit all sorts of atrocities remained on top of the food chain.
The Underground was expanding, new market chains were growing, and the line between right and wrong was loosing its purpose. No one cared as long as they were being paid for their services.
A lot of services apparently, She thought, gazing at the provocatively dressed young woman that appeared in front of them when they turned a corner.
"Doctor-san," She bowed, "The executives are in the infirmary and waiting for their treatment. Ace-sama is in critical condition and needs immediate attention."
At the mention of the executives, something like annoyance flickered across Mori's eyes before disappearing behind a polite smile when the woman raised her head. Dazai wasn't sure if it was because of the late request or the lack of respect from the woman.
Regardless of his feelings, he obviously couldn't refuse. Their was a hierarchy that had to be followed and the executives were second only to the current Boss. Mori was just an underground doctor that had to comply to their demands, even if the messenger was a meek little thing.
"Of course," Mori said, "I was on my way to treat my patient, actually."
The woman blinked and she finally seemed to notice that they weren't alone. With the doctor's commanding presence, it was easy to overlook the young girl standing quietly to the side. The only eye catching thing was the white bandages wrapped around her body.
But at that moment, one look at her dark eyes had an undeniable chill run down the woman's spine. A cold light pierced the depths of her mind making her feel even more exposed than she already was.
In a blink of an eye, that feeling of dread vanished when a smile appeared on the young girl's lips and she was suddenly reminded of her original task.
Turning on her heel, Dazai watched the woman almost trip in the material of her dress as she lead the way to the infirmary.
Possessive bastard, Dazai didn't miss the way Mori's grip on her hand tightened ever so slightly, as if to make sure that Dazai wouldn't run away from him.
