Beep...

Beep...

Beep...

That beeping sound was becoming louder and louder. I tried to open my eyes, but my eyelids felt too heavy. Slowly I opened my eyes. A unfamiliar light filled the room. I couldn’t get a clear image, everything was so blurry.

Where am I? What is going on? I couldn’t move. I tried to open my mouth to scream, but it was even harder to open than my eyes. When I finally opened it, no sound came out.

On the outside I was laying still, motionless. But on the inside I was screaming, trying to free myself. I slowly drifted back to sleep.

I could hear a voice. It kept talking about something. It sounded so familiar. I knew I heard it before, it felt as though in a dream. But is was difficult to hear the exact words this voice was saying. But it was so comforting. I just wanted to listen more.

And slowly I could soon hear the words.

“...and when I told her about it, she just laughed, like it was the biggest joke... maybe if she listened to me, she would still be here” I heard a small chuckle. “I bet I’m depressing you with these stories. Oh you know what happened at school today, it was kind of funny. You remember Dan... the freshmen. Well, he tried to start a food fight at lunch today, and no one would go along with him. So he was throwing food around the cafeteria, I think he was drunk or something. Anyways, he threw a banana at the counselor.  And Ms.Hanglow blew up and he started to cry.” Another small chuckle.

“You know Bailey, sometimes I wonder if you can hear me... I really hope you can. Your mom thinks I’m crazy that I still come here each day”

My eyes shot open. And suddenly it all came back to me. I knew exactly where I was. And I knew exactly who was talking to me. Memories came flooding back.

I looked over to him. He was sitting in a chair next to my hospital bed, holding his head in his hands looking down.

I kept staring at him, not letting my gaze wander away. He seemed to be humming. I didn’t know how much time passed, but enough to notice that he looked much different.

His hair was a little longer than I remember. His shoulders dropped like he was constantly worried or sad. Although, he still looked handsome, wearing a navy V-neck shirt and black jeans. I was so lost in him that I didn’t notice when he looked up.

His eyes met mine, and it looked like he just seen a ghost. His mouth dropped slightly open.

He got up and walked closer cautiously. “Bailey, are you awake?” He said as soon he was next my bed.

I could feel a small smile form on my lips. “No, I’m still asleep” I hardly managed to get that sarcastic comment out.

He smiled. And then he rushed out of the room. I finally managed to get a good look at the room I was in. The walls were white.  There were machines everywhere. I noticed a tube from my arm extending to one of the machines, there was also one by my nose. I also noticed flowers, cards, and stuffed animals in the corner of the room.

The door burst open snapping me out my gaze, and trailing behind Liam were my parents, a man dressed in white who I assumed was the doctor and several nurses. The nurses instantly rushed over to the machines and began checking them.

My mom stood in place with a look of disbelief. “Honey, I am so glad you’re finally awake.” She walked over to my bed and I could see tears in her eyes.
