DRIZZLINGSometimes we lose things to gain something else.
We lose the people we're supposed to love. We lose the people we thought we could love for a lifetime. We lose the people who don't love us. We lose a part of ourselves to society's standards. We lose our sanity trying to keep up with the world. We lose hope of trying to salvage and redeem ourselves in this big, big world.
But then that doesn't mean you lose everything until the end. Someday, you lose something big to gain something small. You lose something small to gain something big. We lose things to gain a blessing in disguise. Like being struck by lightning, getting rejected from a job you've always wanted. But deep down, and somewhere in another universe is someone shouting through the milky way—don't give up yet. You've got a whole paradise waiting for you. You just have to be patient.
And was it delusional of Masuyo Haru to witness this phenomenon? To experience this moment of paradise even when the skies are tearing apart? Even when she, the so-called goddess who weeps every single day, has been humanity's failure?
Did Masuyo Haru lose her will to live, only to gain someone as brilliant as Midoriya Izuku?
"Masu-chan?"
Ah.
Yes, yes. That voice. Masuyo never thought that one day someone's voice would warm her heart other than stabbing it.
"Hey, you're spacing out again." He chuckles, waving his hand in front of her face. "Something on your mind?"
It's only been three days after that, though to her, it felt like yesterday. The two had sat on the rooftop during a drizzle light enough to admire the cityscape. For the first time in a while, the temperature's warmer than usual, and the cold only resides in the breeze. Midoriya no longer floats up with a soaking jumpsuit, and no longer restrain the fluffy forest green hair that perfectly shapes his round feature.
Masuyo glances at him for a moment, contemplating, before turning back to the front. "Nothing."
"Come on, Masu-chan!" He laughed so blithely it made her heart do certain things. "You can't lie to me now that the weather's normal than usual."
Masuyo ends up hiding her face in her knees for a good minute before looking back at the green boy, cheeks heated red.
"Did you mean what you said?" She mumbles, biting her lip and avoiding his bright emerald gaze.
"Hm?" He tilts his head with those adorable eyes.
"Loving me."
Masuyo's face couldn't get any redder than that as she rests her chin on her forearms, boring her gaze at the furthest building in view, ignoring the loud thump of her heart. Nothing could compare her and the world's hottest desert. Because fleeting moments like this never occurred to her until now. This is nothing like those middle school and high school crushes. This was something new. Something big.
"If I didn't mean it, then I would've said something else, right?" He softly says. She hears the rough gravel of the ground scrapping against his shoes. Oh, he's moving closer now. "I really do feel that way."
The girl shifts her gaze towards him, noticing the space between them was a shoulder's brush. His curly hair blows with the fresh breeze, bringing out the soft light in his eyes. In this moment's breeze, Midoriya has never looked so calm and collected. But in one's trust, perhaps, this is his happiest moment. And Masuyo could see it because there is no fear flickering in his gaze. Not in his soft smile.
"But I haven't even said it," Midoriya looks at her with a questioning gaze. "I haven't said it back."
She could see hope flicker past those eyes. And it made her excited too.
"You don't have to say it. Yet," he chuckles. "I'll be waiting."
She smirks. "Even if it takes a million years?"
"Even if it takes a million years!" He cackles, throwing his head back.
Masuyo couldn't help but grin at the boy beside her, torn between admiring his vivacious smile and chuckling at his banter. Although the distance between them was closer than the two were in her apartment, closer than watching All Might Prime together—Masuyo didn't mind at all. The girl was perceptive of how she felt towards him ever since they met, but she would either tuck it away deep in her shallow heart or distract those feelings away. But after Midoriya uttered words she never thought she would hear; she starts thinking about the possibilities of being able to feel this happy.
What led to this moment and why?
