I jolt up, spewing water everywhere and gasping frantically to refill my lungs with much-needed air. My body hurts everywhere. Sudden dizziness fills my head and I feel nauseous. My hair hangs in wet ringlets in front of my eyes and my dress clings uncomfortably tight on my cold frame. Images flit through my mind, the boy...he threw me into a pool!

The bastard! I grit my teeth and clench my fists into tight balls. I will get him for this.

I look up and notice that I am in a dark alley.

Garbage lies everywhere and a few rats scurry along the walls. I shriek and stand up as fast as I can. Where am I?

Did that boy kidnap me? I laugh bitterly. Here I thought that I might have fallen for him, yet I don't even know his name. Serves me right for trusting the first person to show me an ounce of kindness. A shiver racks through my body as a chilly wind seeps into the ally. Taking a deep, calming breath, I take a step forward. There doesn't seem to be anyone in the area since it's deathly quiet. I walk forward, trying my best to not step over anything. I feel something running over my foot and suppress the urge to scream. I am only barefooted since I kicked my heels off, now I regret my decision deeply. The shoes might not be the most comfortable, but they are good protection against critters. I can hardly see anything in the darkness and stumble a few times over things I'd rather not want to know what they are.

Behind me, I hear a door being flung open and stop walking.

Fear washes over me and paralyzes me to the spot. I slowly turn my head and see light flooding out of the door a few meters from where I woke up. A burly figure of a man steps out but I can't see his facial features. "Aye, I saw the lass. She is right 'ere." He scans the area and a shiver spreads throughout me, and it is not from the wind or the fact that I am soaked from head to toe. I watch as he searches for me.

"I don't understand, she was just 'ere a couple a minutes ago." He says in a gruff tone. Time seems to stand still as his head turns in my way and then his gaze lands directly on me. "There she is!"

As soon as the statement leaves his mouth, I spin around and dash forward. To hell with nasty old food and rats that I am surely going to tramp on now. My life is more important than the smell of my feet.

My foot hooks on my long dress and I gather as much of the material in my hands as can. What a waste of time it'll be if I were to fall now and let myself be caught because I tripped over a bloody dress.

"Stop! Come back 'ere ye mad woman!" Even through the gruffness of his voice, I can detect a hint of a British accent. I can hear him running after me and I desperately push myself to run even faster. The fact that I am much smaller than him acts as an advantage since I can run more swiftly and slightly faster. Unfortunately, I am not fast enough. Just as I am about to run out of the alley and into the street, the man grabs my hair and yanks me back. I scream in pain, kicking his legs and scratching his hands. "You 'ave a lotta nerve to be defying me, lass." He whispers in my ear. His breath smells putrid and I suppress the urge to gag.

I fall limp in his hold, making him think that I have given up trying to escape. He seems to buy my act of submission and loosens his hold a bit. I yank my head forward, spinning around and flip-kicking him through his face. His head whips slightly to the side and taking his momentary shock, I run back in the direction leading to the street. There is no way that I will be able to knock him out or fight him, he is much too big and that fact alone makes my heart beat faster with adrenaline.

I run out of the alley and look around hoping to find a person that might be able to help me. Much to my confusion, instead of a street that has streetlamps, this street has old-fashioned poles with candles in; which doesn't even offer much light, to begin with. There is no person in sight making my heart drop down to my feet. I am all alone with an old pervert after me.
