After being at Nest for about two hours, she wouldn’t have minded falling asleep at the cubicle desk. But she was checked in on so often that she would probably get in trouble two minutes into her power nap. Ratchet was excited for their lesson today too, and she didn’t want to disappoint him by being half awake the whole time, especially since he had been putting together a presentation on his datapad for the last two days. He would be going more in-depth about irreplaceable organs in a transformer, which was something they had glossed over in her second lesson.

Cass found herself nodding off, but every time she slipped into a dream she felt like she was falling from that tree again, or she was trying to avoid getting hit with shrapnel from the battle in her dream the other night. Unlike her first one, this clearly wasn’t a piece of history. It felt more like a warning, or maybe her fears getting the best of her. She didn’t like the feeling they left her with either. And with that last dream, Megatron just seemed more real. She hated it. But she also hated how tired she was, and gave into the urge to pass out, promptly falling asleep on the desk right on top of the small stack of newspapers. she had been waiting to read until she could actually focus.

When she woke up again it was three in the afternoon, and she was no longer at the cubicle desk. Instead, she was in the back seat of the Beetle curled up into a tight ball. She definitely needed that nap, but she wasn’t sure how she got there. “Bee?” she grumbled as she sat up to stretch.

“Wow, that was a hardcore recharge. I noticed you fell asleep so I moved you in here. I hope that was okay.” He explained, letting her drag herself out of the backseat so she could get ready for Ratchet’s lesson.

She yawned and stretched even more as she stepped out of the car. “I really appreciate that. You saved me from waking up with a crick in my neck.”

Optimus was at his spot with Teletraan again. He was too determined to break the signal, but Cass knew that it probably wouldn't be worth it in the end. Perhaps he was trying to learn from his errors to make it easier on himself if the occasion ever arises again. He looked like he knew what he was doing, but Cass guessed that this wasn’t actually the case. Maybe he had known how to decode things before, but whatever this encryption was he had never seen it before. It had been scrambled with Earth's radio waves, which made it harder on him  That was why he would sit there for hours on end trying over and over only to keep failing.

“Hey big guy, I think it’s time for you to take a break.” She called over.

Optimus glanced down at her with an amused smile. “You’re not my medical officer.” He said before turning back to the screen.

“Well, I'm a medical officer in training, so my word goes too.” But he laughed before shaking his head.

“That’s not a real position-”

Ratchet approached from behind, staring down the old Prime. “It is now. C’mon, get going.” he shooed prime away, sending him to the Autobots designated area. “As for you, it’s time for our lesson. I hope you’ll forgive me for being so excited, but this is something I find particularly fascinating.” The old Autobot was beaming, clearly in a better mood than he normally would be.

They walked into the empty medbay and Cass took her spot on the counter. Ratchet took his datapad and shared the image to the hologram, just had he did every lesson. A round, glowing piece of scrap was displayed above. Despite Ratchet never showing this before, Cass knew all too well what it was.
“Would you like to guess as to what this is?” he asked after noticing Cass’ eyes growing wide.

She swallowed before answering. “It’s a spark. Just a picture though. It’s the human equivalent of a heart.”

“Very good. I’m sure you’ve heard me say this before, but this is one of the most important pieces of a Transformer. Dare I say, it is the most important. If our head is still attached to it but our body is not, we can still function. Hell, I was nothing but a head and my spark once.” he laughed. It didn’t seem like a memory that should be laughed at. “It runs Energon through our body, and without it, we can no longer exist. If a spark is destroyed there is no way to be revived, as we previously experience with Optimus and Megatron.” He swiped to the next part of the presentation.

On the hologram it showed a concave and empty grey hole, with burns around the circuits and melting all around it. The decepticon symbol in the corner gave away who it was, but she didn’t need that to tell. She had already seen this image before. “This is what Megatron’s spark looked like after he tried to absorb the Allspark. I’m sure you know that didn’t work out too well for him, after all, there is no spark left. As for Optimus…” The next picture appeared, making her own chest hurt as she remembered his screams of pain before dying. It was similar to Megatron’s chest, however there was still half of a spark left. The Allspark must’ve killed him before it could consume it all the way. Around the Prime’s spark were various gashes and stabs from Megatron. The memory made her slightly queasy. Energon was pooled around his half-melted heart... Finally, Ratchet changed the image.

“This is another part that cannot be fixed by any means after being destroyed. Like a spark, it’s virtually irreplaceable. Unless you have someone willing to do a transplant. It’s called the Transformation Cog-- T-Cog for short-- and it’s what gives us our ability to transform.” He laughed to himself before continuing. “Megatron damaged his after being crushed by a city, so he was stuck as a pistol for two years. It was a long time ago, but the short break from him was fantastic.”

She gave Ratchet a small grin, happy to have moved on from the previous topic. Though the full pain in her chest remained.

The rest of Ratchet’s lesson was him talking about medical horror stories that involved either a spark or a T-Cog. Some of them seemed completely farfetched, but one of them seemed a little odd. Bumblebee had reminded Ratchet of the time a human stole his T-Cog, only for a Decepticon named Starscream to destroy it. In response, the human who stole his T-Cog ended up stealing Starscream’s immediately after. Ratchet ended up repairing him after with an old T-cog he fixed up. But Cass didn’t find herself paying attention as much as she wanted to. She kept thinking about the last two dreams, trying to figure out why she had them. One was a memory, the other a possible vision of the future. Cass very well believed in magic when she was younger, but now she wasn’t sure what to pass them off as.

It was no secret that Megatron completely terrified her, and the dreams certainly didn’t help. She was scared of what he’d try and do now that he had a second chance to conquer a planet and eradicate Autobots. Now, Cass was sitting quietly in the Beetle, on her way back home and watching the trees as they passed. She didn’t know what to do. She was being helpful to the Autobots by learning more about them, their history, and how to fix them after battle. She was doing all she could as a human… but she still felt like there was more. More she could do to help. But she was a small and squishy human at the feet of many metal titans. The sword she was making for herself wasn’t enough to help in case of battle, it was just enough to defend herself if needed. She started making it after Breakdown almost kidnapped her. But she sank further and further into her head, hoping she’d come up with at least one more solution.
