It all started on what seemed to be a perfect evening. Lexi and I were at dinner with all the boys, Danielle, and Eleanor. She hadn't been feeling well, but still came along. I could tell she had been hiding something from me all night, but I just let it go and enjoyed time with my girlfriend and best friends.

The waitress brought eight steaming plates of hot food and set one down in front of each person. Everyone at the table was eating and chattinglike normal, besides Lexi. She was just staring at her plate vacantly. I was getting ready to say something when I suddenly felt my phone buzz in my pocket.

The message was from Harry. It read: Is Lexi okay? She's acting strange.

I glanced over at Harry and then typed: I was thinking the same thing. I'll ask her.

I took another bite of my food and then slightly turned in my chair towards her. I played with a strand of her long brown hair. She jumped as if startled by my touch. I took her hand in mine and looked into those gorgeous hazel eyes that entrance me every time. "Are you okay?" I asked worriedly. The table became silent as everyone looked at the two of us.

"What's wrong?" Liam asked with a smile on his face, oblivious to Lexi's strange behavior.

"I-I'm just not feeling well." Lexi explained in a fragile voice. Her skin was awfully pale and her eyes were watering.

"Do you want to get some fresh air?" I asked. She went to get up and then suddenly started coughing violently. I could tell she was having a hard time breathing. Fresh tears began to stream from her eyes as she gasped for air. Everyone quickly jumped out of their seats to help in whatever way they can. Eleanor gave her a cup of water, but it didn't seem to help much.

A concerned waitress ran over asking if she was choking. Now the restaurant manager accompanied her along with the buring gazes of the customers. Her complexion reddened as she clenched her throat. Her trembling hand probed the table top for a napkin as a low gurgling noise esscaped her lips. I picked it up for her and handed it to her. It looked as if she was going to throw up.

Lexi clamped the napkin to her mouth. It was now muffled and beginning to die down. She removed the napkin only to look down in horror. She hurriedly balled it up and ran outside. I pulled a one hundred dollar bill from my wallet and threw it on the table. I ran after Lexi, followed by everyone else.

I could still hear her coughing through out the parking lot. We immediately found her hunched over by my car. Her weak body looking gray and limp while she sat on the curb. A half empty water bottle lay on its side next to her. She looked up at me, tears still streaming from her eyes. "Zayn, I'm coughing up blood," she cried. I kneeled down next to her and held her tight in my arms.

"Let's get you home," I whispered softly in her ear.

It's been two weeks since that last incident. Lexi has still been coughing followed by new things like fever, weight loss, and stomach pain. I feel so terrible since I can't do anything for her. We all finally talked her into seeing a doctor. Danielle and I are bringing her in today. I wanted one of the girls to come just so it would help calm her down.

I sat in the uncomfortable, plastic wrapped chairs next to Danielle in the tiny white washed room. She was nervous, no doubt about it. Fear, pain and fatigue had taken over what used to be my confident, happy girlfriend. She tried holding back her pained expression but failed miserably. Her body was shaking uncontrollably as she fiddled with her fingers.

The door flew open as the doctor stalked into the square room. "Miss Kingston, we just finished running your tests," she reached over and grabbed my hand for some sort of comfort if any. "I'm sorry to inform you that you have been diagnosed with lung cancer."
