I pull up to links house, a farm house. And take off the black helmet before noticing someone peeking through the curtains.
I enter,
"In here!" A voice comes comes from around the corner. I enter the kitchen, the same face from the curtains peeks from the far end of the kitchen, as a woman cuts tomatoes.
"Hi, I'm Carmen" she says wiping off her hands to shake mine. i glance and the young teen girl hiding behind a wall.
"That's lily" Carmen says shaking her curly black hair from her face.
I nod to lily "do you Uhm know where link is?"
"Oh yeah everyone's out back, just through there." she says gesturing her head to the screen door. I pass through it shedding the leather jacket, leaving me in a faded green tank top and jeans. I spot the back of links curly hair at a table with Luke and two 11 year olds like lily playing go fish. I come up behind him and poke his shoulder spinning to his other side.
"Hey" he smiles up at me
"Hi"
Before I know it Luke pulling me down in the chair between him and link putting cards in my hands.
"Sure I'll play too, Luke" I say arranging my cards.
A woman comes up and gives the youngest boy ice water, while holding a little girl, about four.
"Thanks" he mumbles messing with his cards.
"Mommy what's wrong with her eyes?" I glance up the mother, her face petrified.
I smile, "well you see I didn't eat my veggies when my mamma asked." The little girl smiles, while her mother is mouthing thank you to me. Link stands up and a takes the little girl and sits with her, "is that true, link?"
"You bet it is." he says handing her the cards.
We played cards for what seemed like hours, and we had dinner. it was dark now. And the children had left, all except lily who had fallen asleep on Carmen's lap.
But then the woman from the woods showed up.
