I lean on my bike watching the cranes and the ducks pick through the murky Wisconsin water.
A black rusty pickup pulls over the dried leaves. Luke exits the truck.
"Hey," I say softly.
"What's going on Gen?"
"I don't know who I am"
He smiles a fake grin, "you're 23 course you don't know who you are"
I rub my thumb over the paper crumple and Hand it to him. he opens it, glances up to me. "I don't understand you ran away?"
" I don't know"
"What 'do' you know" he sighs.
"I know that's me" I say handing him the picture of me by the rock wall. "I know I don't remember anything"
I explain everything to him, everything except his mom threatening me. That I don't know When I'll be back but I will. that I need him to tell link because I have to go now.
------------------------
"So basically I have no idea when your coming back or any idea of how to contact you after three months you just up and leave?" He says
"Well. I got this," I hand him my ring, the ring I never once took off the entire time.
"Gen I-"
"I'll be back for that now ya hear?"
He closes his hand around the black stone circle.
I look at the ground.
"I hate goodbyes."
"This isn't the goodbye, this is the hello"
I hug him
"I'll Come tell you about all the stupid crap that happened ok?"
"I'll hold you too it, Katherine"
I smile. And put on my helmet.
"It's genesis"
"I'll see you around Gen"
I go, gone.
