The air grew still as she pondered in thought.

"A Naiad?" Lyra questioned, not sure if she heard Stiles correctly. It was her first time shifting from human to Naiad and according to Derek, first are always the worst but it comes more naturally overtime. Shook to her core, Stiles brought her back to his house to monitor her condition and perhaps help her figure out what exactly is a Naiad.

"Yeah, here." Stiles answered, sliding the laptop to her. It was a website full on Greek mythology and its creature. A page titled, Naiad displayed on the screen and they began reading together.

Naiads are a race of mortal creatures, descendants of Nymphs that lived their lives in the oceans, rivers and all natural water sources across Elysium. Other races that have descended from these ancient Water Nymphs include Oceanids and Nereids. Naiads have a bond and strong connection to water sources, as well as other creatures that can be found in the water.

Naiads have blue blood with hemocyanin instead of the iron-rich haemoglobin found in humans. This allows for easier blood transport in cold and/or low-pressure conditions, like the deep sea. However, they lack red blood cells, the hemocyanin simply dissolved in plasma. This gives Naiads a great resistance to blood magic as a result.

A Naiads transformation can start as early as a toddler, according to their subcategories. When Krenaia come in contact with fountains, the transformation begins. The process of transformation for Naiads are not as pleasing as they thought to be. It would start by them hearing a deafening ringing which was said to be the hum from the Goddess of water, Amphitrite. Followed by the cleansing of the body, water seeping from the eyes. Lastly, using their power to control water.

Naiads live in usually somewhat primal tribes and groups, with a hierarchy of there being one sole leader of the ground, their 'beta' and then the rest of the group. It is important for a new-born Naiad to stay in their as the leader would walk them through their transformation.

If a Naiad is provoked, her anger is reflected in her waters. She can make water simmer with the heat of her fury, and she can unleash flash-floods or droughts upon her enemies. She can also change the quality of her water, making it yellow and wretched with sulphur, or white and sweet, like milk. Occasionally, she might undertake grander transfigurations such as hiding a lover by turning him into an echo or hiding herself by transforming into a stream.
