Winged heroes; as I approached the building, the familiarity of the patterned stone-brick paths could be felt from beneath the thin, sole-black flats I had worn. A knit, navy blue blazer snuggled around my body carefully, proposing as a shield to block the painful words that would stab through it so precisely. That was to be expected from a despicable girl such as Addy Saffer herself. She knew just how to damage people till they were no more. Although, no sign of her presence was marked on my radar.
The wind slipped past my fingertips, causing the bones to shudder as small, cold spikes poked them. Below the outer attire was a white, fluff-collared shirt, and a loose crimson, red tie that dangled about it.A lavender-glazed, ten foot tall building, stacked with a foundation of bricks sat so gingerly atop the seemingly weightless clouds to a little world gazing up above. In the area this school was located, that's all the students could view, a vast, teal sky and clouds that the humans thought to be congested of tiny, water droplets. This was far from the truth, those fluffy objects you see in the wondrous, enchantment atmosphere, were solid as rocks. The peaceful beings that were mythed to have halos, hideous style for a rob, and leather, brown Birkenstocks were all fibs. These beings may be your wife, children, significant other, or husband.
The angels birthed the descendants, giving them an incredible amount of power to defend those who were considered weak against the realm of corruption, hell. Demons over the years have begun to poor out onto the sky, calling for more reinforcements. Thus decades ago a military high school was born to prepare the angel descendants for the terrifying beast, Satan. It was to clobber an evil demon that dared to show his or her face.
I, on the other hand, had a gigantic secret that perched on my shoulders.
A light, forceful thud slammed upon my arm. My eyes became hazy as they set on locks of hair shining with an enormous load of bleach, blonde and streaks of hot pink running down. For someone four inches beneath me, Addy somehow reached towards the upper part of my shoulder. "Watch where you're going, small horns''. She called out, walking effortlessly in her designer, turquoise high heels. The girls wore identical colored uniforms to the boys or gender-noncomforming individuals (such as me), the only difference was skirts were replaced instead of pants.
I picked up a delicate, yet firm voice of concern. Baby blue pupils peeped at me. "Are you ok? She is such a jerk.", Moon said aloud, no shame or fear trembling from making such a remark. That's just like her, bravery filling her veins and care free to her own delight. Yet, this part of my life was bewildering to say the least. A popular demi-girl such as her, introduced herself at the end of the year to, out of all people, me. This is where a sincere and promising friendship began. My only companion whilst attending here for eleventh grade.
"Yo, earth to Wave?" The brunette exclaimed, trying to get me back on this planet, an astonishing smile reaching her face. "I can't stand on my tippy-toes forever you beanstalk."
My cheeks grew strangely red. "R-right. Excuse me for the inconvenience."
"Wave, there is no need to be so formal". Moon playfully nudged me.
I took a deep breath. "You're right".
Ever since I arrived at high school it appeared as though my brain had some phony, identity switch. A faint whisper tickling the eardrum, instructing me to put on a facade of serenity and confidence, but what you feel beneath the surface could never compare to the person one gives. The various sides of me brimmed to the top of the tea kettle with a dreadful emotion clinging to the stomach.
"Then take it down a notch." She advised, "Just staring at you almost makes me feel tense."
Before a response managed to be audible, one of the most gorgeous angel descendants known to mankind, grabbed the palm of my hand with such delicacy. My feet followed the rhythm of Moon's steps. Her elegant, strands of espresso brown, swiftly flowed as the gust of air whistled past. This girl.....is the definition of true beauty.
Once the two of us set foot in the spacious hallways that were bustling with a crowd of students, several people surrounded her and I. Or should I state, Moon.
Addy and Moon were polar opposites, however, the pair still had a high social status. Addy is a person who shows no remorse, feels god-like, and never views herself in the wrong. Moon has reflected reversed traits, giving others a comforting presence, appearing affectionate, although having a headstrong demeanor, and formed a secure territory a stranger or friend could confide in.
A gal by the name of Axel requested something so simple, but so troubling to me. "Wanna get coffee later, Moon?"
Without hesitation, the blue eyed girl responded with an immediate yes and turned to me. "Would you like to go too?" Her voice chirped enthusiastically.
I consumed an excessive lot of invisible parasites that crawled the inside of my chest, labeled anxiety. Sweat poured amongst the top of my forehead. "I-I can't. There is work I have to finish." A lie that was possibly not convincing.
An eyebrow raised, trivial to my answer, but Moon calmly replied. "Okay, maybe another time."
The group of venoms released out and I felt my mood go back to a peaceful state of mind.
My vision averted to the cold-hard, surface. It was cemented with magenta-steeled tiles to avoid long, lasting stains. The walls had decorations filled with generic, stereotypical angels that grazed the hand of a human who would soon convert to an angel descendant (half angel-half human). A set of glass, doors to the far right led to the cafeteria. Dark, green lockers jammed against the flat surface of where the designs had been, cutting them off, and classroom doors swung open.
This was the tragic first day of school.
