Pov : Everest

I ran. I ran and ran until I dropped. It hurt. Everything hurt.

I heard my ‘mother’ scream my name.

She had no right to call herself my mom. I pulled myself to my feet, pain tearing at my body. I didn’t care. As long as I got away from this hell hole.

Nothing mattered anymore.

But before long, I couldn’t run anymore. My legs felt numb. My arms did too. Hopefully I had lost her. Hopefully I was dying.

But, just as fast as I closed my eyes to welcome death, I found myself awake. Was I dead? I had no idea. A bright light flashed on and someone rushed to my side.

Nope. Not dead.

It was a tall man with black hair and a slight stubble. I guessed he knew me but I didn’t recognize him. He hugged me tight

“Thank God... you’re awake”
What the fuck? He sounded like he was about to cry-

Who was this man and who gave him the right to put his hands on my body.

“Uuuuhh, hi?” I said, confused on what the heck was going on.

He looked up at me and let go. “I’m sorry, you probably don’t remember me...” “what? Remember you? Who are you? Why are you here?”

Questions came rolling out of my mouth, I couldn’t stop.

But there were some I couldn’t ask either

‘why aren’t I dead? Is Annie gone? Can I please go back to thinking I’m dead?’

The man wiped his tears away “it’s me Everest, your dad” he finally said.

Anger and sadness shot through my body.

He, my dad, was the one who’d left me alone so long ago.

“What gives you the right to come see me...” I mumbled. “I’m sorry...” he said “they told my about what happened, with you, and your mother, Annie”’he looked to the floor.

I was to mad to look him in the eye. I tried to get up but just as I did pain filled my body, though I tried to ignore it.

I finally got a good look at my new surroundings. “Where the hell?” I muttered, he couldn’t hear me though.

I walked around a bit. It looked like a small cabin. “This is where I live” he said. “I saw you in the woods, just laying there.” He continued.

“You should’ve left me.” I started looking at all the old pictures and letters I’d sent him in the past.

I obviously forgot about him though.

I tried to walk out the door when a small puppy came rushing up to me.

What the fuck was this adorable creature doing here.

I stooped down and pet it, letting it lick my hand. My dad chimed in “I adopted him a few days ago, I still need a name” he said, noticing my interest in the puppy.

It looked to be an Australian shepherd but I don’t know Jack about dogs.

I picked it up and held it to my chest, making sure not to drop it.

“Zeus...” I suddenly said.

“There’s a name if you’re still struggling, the God of the sky and thunder” I looked over to my dad.

“He smiled and nodded, “sure, Zeus”

Soon, I sat down Zeus and felt something hit my body.

I felt arms wrap around me and I saw a wave of a peach color. I then heard a squeal and someone... talking?-

“aaah! Evy!!! I missed youuuu!” A high pitched voice said.

The girl let go and immediately grabbed my shoulders “ah! You probably don’t remember me but it’s me your twin!” The girl had long peach hair that was obviously dyed.

“Um- hey?” It sounded more like a question.

Another girl came out from beside the door “her names Lyra, and I’m Emery” the darker haired girl spoke.

And then two guys walked up, one waving, and the other not even noticing I was there.

The one named Lyra spoke yo again “I missed you sooooo much Evy!” She smiled, hugging me once more.

“Lyra, give her space to breathe” Emery sighed.

Lyra back away from me, I picked up Zeus again and hugged him, he was currently the only one I trusted, and I had no problem with that.
